В Нидерландах археологи обнаружили кость, наполненную семенами ядовитого растения
Археологическая находка с лекарственным растением
Интересную находку удалось сделать ученым во время раскопок комплекса Хаутен-Кастеллум. Это древнее поселение находится недалеко от современного города Утрехта в Нидерландах. Оно процветало примерно 2600 лет назад и просуществовало до конца второго века нашей эры. В настоящее время ученым удалось сделать огромное количество различных находок на этом месте — тысячи металлических предметов, фрагменты древних фундаментов, а также огромное количество костей животных.
Среди них ученые нашли одну вполне обычную на первый взгляд, хорошо сохранившуюся овечью или козью кость. Очищая ее, один из археологов случайно выбил из нее берестяную пробку, в результате чего из кости высыпались семена растения. Оказалось, что внутри она была выдолбленной, а ее стенки были залиты березовым дегтем. То есть она представляла собой емкость. Поэтому не вызывало сомнений, что семена хранили тщательным образом для определенной цели.

Кость использовалась как емкость для хранения семян белены
К сожалению, большая часть семян была потеряна, когда пробка открылась. Однако осталось еще 382 семени, которые, как выяснилось, принадлежали растению Hyoscyamus niger, более известному как белена черная. Заполненный же контейнер, по мнению исследователей, мог содержать до 4000 таких семян. В ходе исследования ученые обнаружили, что в средней части кость была гладкой и отполированной. Это говорит о том, что кость часто использовалась, о чем сообщается в журнале Antiquity.
Зачем древние люди использовали черную белену
Что же жители Хаутен-Кастеллума делали с беленой? Даже в малых дозах это растение очень опасное, так как содержит сильные токсины — гиосциамин и скополамин. Попадание этих токсинов в организм человека может вызывать сильную тахикардию, судороги, кому и смерть. Однако в малых дозах белена вызывает галлюцинации и даже может использоваться в качестве лекарственного растения.
Надо сказать, ученые давно предполагали, что белена использовалась в древние времена как лекарственное растение. Более того, римский историк Плиний Старший в еще 77-79 годах нашей эры писал, что это растение в различных формах может применяться для устранения боли, например зубной, маточной или при подагре. Также, по его мнению, белена помогала при простуде и кашле. Также он указывал, что принимать ее необходимо с большой осторожностью, чтобы избежать отравления.

Черная белена содержит сильные токсины
Однако до последнего моменты было неизвестно когда люди впервые стали применять белену в медицинских целях. Ранее ее находили в госпитале римской крепости I века нашей эры, в погребальном инвентаре в Ютландии около 980 года нашей эры, а также на территории многих других археологических объектов. Однако невозможно было доказать, что растение использовалось людьми.
Дело в том, что белена очень распространена в Европе. Она могла расти на территории поселений и вокруг них. Соответственно, семена могли оказаться на территории археологических памятниках совершенно случайно.
Нынешняя же находка не вызывает сомнений. Учитывая, что данная территории 2600 лет назад была частью Римской Империи, скорее всего семена использовались в качестве лекарственного средства. Правда, другие некоторые археологические находки указывают на то, что белены также могла использоваться и в качестве галлюциногена.
