Озеро Байкал известно тем, что является самым глубоким в мире. Его глубина достигает 1642 метра, что сопоставимо с океаническими глубинами. По этой причине дно озера не очень хорошо изучено. Однако теперь исследователи смогли детально его рассмотреть благодаря подводному роботу. Дно оказалось все в трещинах и деформациях, вызванных неизвестными ранее грязевыми вулканами. Они расположены вблизи разлома на берегу озера, известного как Северо-Байкальский разлом. Глубина, где они были найдены, сравнительно небольшая — от 100 до 165 метров, что удивило ученых. По мнению исследователей, признаки недавних извержений могут говорить о том, что разлом активен.

Что такое грязевые вулканы
Грязевой вулкан представляет собой геологическое образование в виде углубления на поверхности земли либо конусообразного возвышения с кратером, из которого извергаются газы и грязевые массы. Часто извержения сопровождаются водой или нефтью. Они могут происходить постоянно или периодически.
Грязевые вулканы чаще всего встречаются в вулканических либо нефтеносных зонах. Иногда они проходят сквозь слои глины и вулканического пепла. Крупнейшие грязевые вулканы могут иметь диаметр около 10 км и высоту порядка 700 м. Несмотря на то, что они не такие опасные, как обычные лавовые вулканы, их извержения часто тоже сопровождаются людскими жертвами.

Грязевые вулканы на дне Байкала
Робот обнаружил следы извержениями грязи в двух местах — в бухте Малая Коса и бухте Горячинской. Оба этих участка находятся вдоль северо-западного берега озера. Надо сказать, что ученые уже знали, что озеро содержит грязевые вулканы, однако все известные кратеры находятся на большой глубине. Нынешняя же находка расположена в непосредственной близости от зоны разлома. Признаки недавних извержений на дне озера говорят о том, что разлом все еще активен.
Между кратерами робот заснял трещины, которые проходят вдоль северо-западного берега озера. То есть они идут параллельно Северобайкальскому разлому, о чем сообщают сотрудники Российской академии наук (СОРАН), принимавшие участие в открытии. Также они сообщают, что в Северо-Байкальской впадине ранее происходили сильные землетрясения.
На обоих участках, где ученые провели исследование при помощи автономного подводного аппарата, были обнаружены сильно трещиноватые пласты, покрытые глиной, мягкими отложениями и изверженными отложениями. Как сообщается в исследовании, на самом северном участке Горячинской бухты, кратеры переполнены грязевой массой. Это значит, что извержения произошли недавно.

На отснятых кадрах можно увидеть слои горных пород, которые были разорваны и подняты вверх в результате извержений грязи и газонасыщенных жидкостей. Некоторые валуны были “выдавлены” снизу. Когда подводный робот продвинулся на меньшую глубину, стало понятно, что весь крутой склон густо покрыт грязевыми кратерами. Это очень странно, так как для возникновения грязевых вулканов требуется высокое давление и высокие температуры, поэтому они образуются на больших глубинах.
Почему возникли грязевые вулканы под Байкалом
Грязевые вулканы озера Байкал, которые были обнаружены раньше, питаются газовыми гидратами, то есть кристаллами воды и газа, образующимися под водоемами. В регионах, где происходят тектонические процессы, газовые гидраты становятся нестабильными из-за дополнительного тепла, создаваемого в земной коре. В результате смесь газов и грязи выбрасываются на поверхность.
Однако обнаруженные грязевые вулканы возникли по другим причинам. Скорее всего, небольшие подвижки и землетрясения в Северобайкальском разломе приводят к подъему суспензий к поверхности дна и их прорыву. Таким образом, они являются результатом активности разлома.
