Примечательно, что ядовитыми являются только самцы утконосов. У самок вырабатывающие яд железы отваливаются в первый год жизни, так и не начав выполнять свои функции.
Почему утконосы потеют молоком
Самцы утконоса ядовиты, а у самок есть другая интересная особенность. Чуть выше мы выяснили, что они являются млекопитающими, то есть их детеныши пьют молоко. Но у самок нет сосков, поэтому молоко просачивается наружу через их кожу. Оно течет вниз в специальные складки, из которых новорожденные утконосы и пьют питательную жидкость.

Как утконосы живет без желудка
Еще одной удивительной особенностью утконосов является отсутствие желудка. У большинства живых организмов этот орган пищеварения жизненно необходим для перемалывания пищи и разложения под действием желудочного сока. Считается, что желудок у живых организмов появился примерно 450 миллионов лет назад.

У утконосов съеденная пища сразу же попадает из пищевода в кишечник. В 2008 году ученые выяснили, что связанные с желудком гены утконосов либо полностью исчезли, либо просто стали неактивными. Почему это произошло, ученые точно не знают. Но есть предположение, что утконосы лишились желудка из-за изменений в рационе питания или других внешних факторов.
