В Венесуэле и Колумбии вдоль реки Ориноко находятся одни из самых крупных и загадочных наскальных рисунков в мире. На них изображены люди и животные, но особенно часто встречаются змеи. Например, на одном из рисунков изображена гигантская змея длиной около 40 метров. Также встречаются гигантские амазонские многоножки. В ходе недавнего исследования археологи нанесли на карту 14 мест расположения наскальных рисунков, и пришли к выводу, что они были созданы не ради искусства, а служили своего рода дорожными указателями в древние времена.

Древние наскальные рисунки
Нигде в мире больше не существует такого большого скопления гигантских наскальных рисунков, как в Венесуэле и Колумбии В других местах на Земле хоть и встречается наскальная живопись, но она представляет собой единичные образцы.
Все рисунки здесь находятся высоко на скалах. Их возраст, скорее всего, составляет около 2000 лет. Конечно, датировать их возраст не просто, однако ранее ученые находили в этом регионе керамику, которая была украшены рисунками в похожем стиле. Например, внимание археологов привлекла небольшая урна, обнаруженная в пещере на одном из склонов холма. Артефакт содержал изображение змеи, такое же, как и на скале.
Согласно исследованию, рисунок включает в себя рога, спиральный хвост и “четкий зигзаг”. Скорее всего автор пытался изобразить змею Серро Паломасон. Возможно, тот, кто украшал керамическую урну, просто скопировал изображение на одной из скал. Ученые предполагают, что керамическая посуда и наскальные рисунки были созданы в одно и то же время.

Древние люди рисовали на скалах гигантских змей
К нынешней работе исследователи привлекли местных гидов, чтобы снять с дронов все участки, где находятся наскальные рисунки. Некоторые из этих гравюр были задокументированы ранее. Однако в ходе нынешнего исследования были обнаружены новые изображения, которые официально еще не были идентифицированы, хотя о них знали местные жители.
Авторы работы считают, что расположение гравюр подскажет зачем доисторические люди приложили столько усилий, чтобы создать их. В основном все они находятся на участке реки Ориноко, именуемом порогами Атурес, о чем сообщается в издании Antiquity. Вполне возможно, что этот участок был доисторическим торговым и туристическим маршрутом.

Очевидно, монументальные памятники выполнены специально так, чтобы они были видны издалека. А значит они несли в себе какую-то информацию, предназначавшуюся для торговцев и туристов. Вполне возможно, что имел место аспект территориальности. То есть местные жители таким образом обозначали свою территорию, и давали понять гостям, где они находятся.
Как говорит ведущий автор исследования Филип Ририс, рисунок сообщал другим людям, что здесь живут они (местные жители). Очевидно, змеи были выбраны не спроста. Обычно змеи воспринимаются как опасные существа, которые способны убивать людей и крупных животных. Поэтому наскальные рисунки могли также указывать на то, что людям, которые попали на эту территорию, необходимо следить за своими манерами, то есть от гостей ожидается соответствующее поведение, чтобы не столкнуться с неприятностями.

Исследователи точно не знают, кто именно нанес рисунки на скалы. Однако некоторые изображения, например удавы и анаконды, играли важную роль в мифах и верованиях нескольких местных коренных народов, которые живут на этой территории по сей день.
