Долговременная память ответственна за хранение информации в течение длительного времени — от нескольких минут до всей жизни. Как мозг управляет воспоминаниями?
Ключевой структурой для формирования и консолидации памяти, особенно эпизодической, отвечающей за перенесение информации из кратковременной в долговременную память, является гиппокамп – парная структура, расположенная в височных отделах полушарий мозга.
Миндалевидное тело или миндалина (амигдала) важна для эмоциональной памяти, так как позволяет нам запоминать события с яркой эмоциональной окраской. Базальные ганглии и мозжечок, в свою очередь, участвуют в недекларативной памяти, то есть в процедурных навыках и моторном обучении.

Почему мы быстро забываем информацию?
Как правило мозг уравновешивает бесчисленные входные данные, мысли и действия, но иногда в нем происходит нечто, напоминающее короткое замыкание. В таких ситуациях важно помнить о двух различных типах памяти: долговременной и рабочей.
Во-первых, объем рабочей памяти ограничен, так как обычно люди запоминают от четырех до семи «фрагментов» информации, включая буквы, цифры, слова или фразы. Однако вместо того, чтобы осознавать все эти «фрагменты» одновременно, мозг переключается с одной идеи на другую.
Во-вторых, мозг быстро стирает неважные данные из рабочей памяти, чтобы освободить место для новой информации. Это означает, что кратковременные воспоминания не будут перенесены в долговременную память и вскоре исчезнут из сознательного мышления.
