В могиле на древнем кладбище в китайской провинции Хэнань археологи обнаружили необычное захоронения возрастом около 2500 лет. В могилах находились останки двух людей принадлежащих к местной элите. Необычным были странные, одинаковые увечья на каждом из скелетов. Недавнее исследование предполагает, что травмы были нанесены за совершенное преступление в качестве наказания. По мнению исследователей, данное открытие раскрывает подробности жестокой казни, именуемой “юэ”. Данный вид наказания был широко распространен в Древнем Китае, но в какой-то момент от него отказались.

Помимо самих скелетов, археологи обнаружили на кладбище множество артефактов, таких как медные крючки для пояса, керамика, каменные таблички и пр. Сами скелеты были обнаружены внутри двухъярусных гробов. Кроме того, ученые обращают внимание на особую ориентацию захоронений — с севера на юг. Это все указывает на высокий социальный статус похороненных людей.
У обоих останков была ампутирована нижняя часть ноги — у одного скелета была повреждена левая нога, а у другого — правая. Что удивительно, нижние части костей (большеберцовая и малоберцовая кость) указывают на то, что рана хорошо зажила. Кроме того, кости не имели следов порезов или повреждений. Эти особенности указывают на преднамеренную и квалифицированную ампутацию, выполненную специалистом, а также последующий правильный уход за ранами.

Останки древних людей возрастом 2500 лет
Для получения подробной информации об останках и их увечьях, ученые использовали компьютерную томографии и радиоуглеродное датирование. Оба метода показали, что скелеты принадлежат мужчинам, похороненным примерно в 550 году до нашей эры. В этот период правила династия Восточная Чжоу (770–256 года до нашей эры). Еще его называют периодом Воюющих Царств.
На момент смерти возраст одного мужчины составлял 40-44 года, а возраст второго человека — 45-55 лет. Поврежденные обе кости мужчин срослись друг с другом, в результате чего образовалась так называемая костная шишка. Как уже было сказано выше, на них отсутствовали следы повреждений, которые говорили бы о многократных ударах или неаккуратной ампутации.
Также ученые провели химический анализ останков, в результате чего выяснилось, что оба мужчины потребляли много белка. Кроме того, в костях было богатое содержание углерода, который присутствует в некоторых растениях, в том числе в просе. Такая диета подтверждает, что останки принадлежали людям аристократического класса. Исследование гробов, в которых были похоронены оба мужчины, говорят о том, что скорее всего эти люди принадлежали к низшему офицерскому составу династии Чжоу. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences.

Необычная казнь в Китае
Учитывая социальный статус мужчин, а также Уголовный кодекс Чжоу, ученые пришли к выводу, что наиболее вероятным объяснением отсутствия ног является казнь “юэ”. При этом команда утверждает, что увечья не могли быт получены из-за других причин, таких как заболевания, требующие ампутации конечностей, жертвенная ампутация, врожденное заболевание и т.д.
Казнь “Юэ”, которая представляла собой карательную ампутацию, применяли в Древнем Китае в период с 2100 по 1600 год до нашей эры в период правления династии Ся. Отменила ее династия Хань во II веке до нашей эры. Согласно древнему уголовному кодексу, “Юэ” применялась за множество преступлений, например, воровство, невыполнение своих обязанностей, обман монарха и пр.
В некоторых случаях ампутацию применяли при смягчении наказания, то есть вместо смертной казни. Как сообщают ученые, за более серьезные преступления человека лишали нижней части правой ноги. Если преступления были менее тяжкими, ампутации подвергалась левая нога.
