На практике же любители осенних костров поджигают большую гору растительного мусора, часто сырого, который вместо того, чтобы гореть, начинает длительно тлеть, выделяя при этом огромное количество ядовитого дыма.
Главной составляющей дыма является монооксид углерода, известный как угарный газ. Это смертельно опасное соединение, которое легко связывается с гемоглобином крови. Напомним, что последний обеспечивает транспортировку и доставку кислорода к тканям. Углекислый же газ блокирует доставку кислорода, в результате чего человек может потерять сознание.

Как сообщает Университет Пердью, угарный газ особенно опасен для детей и сердечников. Когда человек дышит смогом, образовавшимся из-за тлеющих листьев, возрастает нагрузка на сердце. Это приводит к обострению сердечных заболеваний или даже вызывает их развитие и у здоровых людей. Однако углекислый газ — далеко не самое опасное вещество, которое выделяется при сжигании листьев.
В течение лета листья накапливают в себе тяжелые металлы и канцерогенные соединения. Также в процессе тления выделяется сильный канцероген — бензапирен. Поэтому, как сообщает издание Our Endangered World, у людей, которые жгут листья, значительно повышен риск развития онкологических заболеваний, таких как рак легких. Но и это еще не все — с дымом в воздух выбрасываются диоксины — одни из самых ядовитых для человека веществ. Они поражают иммунную, нервную и эндокринную системы, а также нарушают репродуктивную функцию. Кроме того, диоксины тоже являются канцерогенами, то есть повышают риск развития рака.

Как правило, в осенних кострах содержатся не только листья и трава. Обычно, когда убирают территорию, сгребают в мусорную кучу все подряд. В результате образуется настоящая “гремучая смесь” со множеством токсинов.

Даже при небольшом количестве фосгена человек начинает ощущать общую слабость, возникает кашель и раздражение слизистой оболочки глаз. При этом может развиться отек легких с летальным исходом. Поэтому многие люди после подобных уборок территории со сжиганием мусора начинают чувствовать себя плохо, но списывают это на “осеннюю хандру”. Самое же неприятное, что опасности подвергается здоровье посторонних людей, в том числе детей и беременных женщин.
