Свое название они получили из-за того, что в зонах их расположения сейсмические волны движутся медленнее, чем в остальной мантии. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что эти участки отличаются от остальной мантии по температуре и составу. То есть по какой-то причине мантия неоднородна, но только на двух участках. Один такой сгусток находится под Африкой, а другой — под Тихим океаном.

К выводу о том, что в недрах Земли содержатся обломки древней планеты, ученые пришли на основе компьютерного моделирования. Команда воссоздала удар, в результате которого возникла Луна. Также исследователи смоделировали процессы, которые происходили в момент удара с мантией и после него в течение следующих 4,5 миллиарда лет.

Надо сказать, что для моделирования был использован метод, известный как “Бессеточная конечная масса” (MFM). Этот метод известен точным моделированием турбулентности и смешивания материалов.
Исследование показало, что в результате удара расплавилась не вся мантия, а только верхняя ее половина. При этом нижний твердый слой захватил примерно 10% мантии другой планеты, врезавшейся в Землю. По массе и объему, обломки Теи из компьютерной модели очень похожи на мантийные сгустки, которые обнаружили ученые в мантии Земли.
Это говорит о том, что в результате столкновения Земли с Тейей произошло гораздо более обширное смешивание планет, чем предполагалось ранее. Как утверждают авторы исследования, ранее ученые концентрировали свое внимание на выбросе обломков двух планет, в результате которого сформировалась Луна. Но при этом мало уделялось внимания тому, что происходило с самой Землей после катастрофы.

Что произошло с обломками древней планеты в мантии Земли
Как сообщается в исследовании, опубликованном в журнале Nature, обломки Тейи постепенно встраивались в структуру Земли. Они были на 2,5% плотнее мантии. Постепенно эти сгустки затвердели и опустились вниз. В конечном итоге эти обломки оказались в нижней части мантии, но не были включены в ядро планеты, а остались на стыке. Как сообщают ученые, сгустки находятся на глубине около 2000 километров. Они примерно на 3% плотнее, чем окружающая их среда.
Подтвердить или опровергнуть эту версию можно только проанализировав химический состав сгустков. Это более реально, чем кажется на первый взгляд. Представление о геохимии мантийных сгустков могут дать вулканические породы, то есть базальты, которые вырываются на поверхности при извержении вулканов. Вулканы извергаются над участками сгустков, поэтому добыть их не сложно.

Также известно, что большая часть Луны образована телом, которое врезалось в Землю. Это значит, что можно сравнить базальты с породами Луны. Если их состав окажется одинаковым, значит ученые не ошиблись в своих выводах. Правда, для сравнения пород понадобятся образцы грунта Луны с большой глубины. Возможно, их получится добыть в ходе будущих пилотируемых миссий “Артемида”. Если данные подтвердятся, это даст ученым понимание того, как формируются многие каменистые планеты.
