Собаки-самки обычно живут дольше, чем самцы. Если средняя продолжительность жизни самцов составляет 12,4 года, то самки живут 12,7 года. Кроме того, авторы работы обнаружили, что чистые породы живут немного дольше, чем помеси.
Авторы отмечают, что их результаты касаются прежде всего собак Великобритании. Тем не менее, полученные данные можно брать во внимание при выборе породы. По их мнению, отдавать приоритет следует здоровью, а не милому внешнему виду, поэтому лучше отказаться от приобретения собак с плоской мордой.
Надо сказать, что многие люди выбирают породы не только исходя из их внешнего вида, но и характера. Однако недавнее исследование показало, что такой подход неправильный, так как порода собаки не влияет на ее характер.
