Чем мумифицировали древнеегипетскую аристократку
Женщину, о которой идет речь, звали Сенетней. Ее мумия была обнаружена в 1900 году Говардом Картером, известным археологом и египтологом, который в 1922 году нашел гробницу Тутанхамона. К слову, Говардом Картером дожил до 1934 году, несмотря на “проклятие”, которое якобы убивало всех, кто потревожил покой молодого фараона. Но сейчас речь не о нем.
Прошлые исследования показали, что Сенетней имела высокое положение в обществе, так как была кормилицей младенца, которого впоследствии короновали. Он был известен как фараон Аменхотеп II. Как и положено высокопоставленному человеку в Древнем Египте, женщина была похоронена в царской гробнице в Долине царей. Ее останки находились в ритуальном сосуде (канопе).
Теперь команда исследователей из Института геоантропологии Макса Планка решила выполнить сложный анализ и определить какие вещества использовались при бальзамировании этой женщины. К слову, о запахе парфюма в Древнем Риме ученым уже известно. Но запахи Древнего Египта, как было сказано выше, до последнего моменты не были известны. Чтобы раскрыть их секрет, ученые использовали газовую хроматографию-масс-спектрометрию двух типов, жидкостную хроматографию-тандемную масс-спектрометрию и другие современные технологии, которые помогли выяснить состав бальзама.

Как выяснилось, вещество содержало пчелиный воск, животные жиры, растительные масла, битум и смолы деревьев, таких как сосна и лиственница. Кроме того, исследователи обнаружили ингредиенты, которые, очевидно, придавали бальзаму определенный аромат. К ним относится кумарин, обладающий довольно сильным ванильным запахом, и бензойной кислотой, которую впервые открыл Настрадамус.
Интересно, что для бальзамирования некоторых органов этой женщины использовалось другое вещество, в составе которого учеными было обнаружено два ароматных соединения — лариксол, полученный из смолы лиственницы, и ароматная смола, которая могла быть либо даммаром (веществом, полученным из определенных деревьев, распространенных в Индии и Юго-Восточной Азии), либо смолой Pistacia, растения из рода кешью.

Исследователи подключили к своей работе специалиста-парфюмера, который помог им получить аромат бальзама и разлить его во флаконы. Аромат назвали «Запахом вечности». Вскоре он будет выставлен в музее Моэсгаард в Дании. Это позволит посетителям музея не только посмотреть на древние артефакты, но и ощутить аромат древности. По мнению ученых, он воплощает в себе богатое культурное, историческое и духовное значение древнеегипетских погребальных практик.

Но результатом исследования стало не только получение древнего аромата. Состав бальзама указывает на то, что древние египтяне получали ингредиенты для него за пределами своего царства. Более того, если присутствие даммара в бальзаме подтвердится, это будет означать, что египтяне наладили торговые связи с Юго-Восточной Азией на 1000 лет раньше, чем ученые предполагали ранее. Но, более точная информация появится после дополнительных исследований.
