Ранее мы рассказывали, что самыми дорогими и редкими являются именно розовые алмазы. Их доля среди общего количества добываемых алмазов составляет всего 0,01%. Причем 90% всех розовых алмазов добывались из рудника Аргайл, расположенного в Западной Австралии. Однако в 2020 году добыча драгоценного камня была прекращена.
Кроме того, что розовые алмазы самые редкие на Земле, они также являются и самыми загадочными. Если желтые и голубые алмазы приобретают цвет благодаря присутствию в их составе других элементов, то розовые камни химически абсолютно чистые, как и белые. Розовый цвет они приобретают исключительно благодаря условиям, в которых формируются.

Как возникают розовые алмазы
Ранее ученые предполагали, что для возникновения розовых алмазов необходимы огромные силы, которые возникают при столкновении тектонических плит. Но это не единственный фактор, который требуется для их возникновения и появления на поверхности Земли. Чтобы выяснить какие оно еще условия требуют, исследователи решили выяснить возраст их месторождения.
Для определения возраста исследователи изучили соотношение урана в апатите и цирконе, то есть минералах, входящих в состав пород рудника Аргайл. Уран со временем распадается на свинец и гелий. Измеряя его соотношение с продуктами его распада, можно определить возраст месторождения. Исследование показало, что возраст Аргайла составляет 1,3 миллиарда лет. Ранее предполагалось, что это месторождение на 100 миллионов лет моложе.

Уточнение возраста имеет большое значение, так как оно дает подсказку о том, в каких условиях сформировались бриллианты. Известно, что 1,3 миллиарда лет назад происходил распад древнего суперконтинента. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nature.

Распавшимся суперконтинентом, по мнению ученых мог, быть Нуна. Он раскололся предположительно 1,3-1,22 миллиарда лет назад. Но как именно его распад мог повлиять на появление редких алмазов? По мнению ученых, важным условием являются силы растяжения.

Аргайл находится на том участке, где миллиарды лет назад регион Кимберли столкнулся с остальной частью северной Австралии. Такое столкновение образует поврежденную область или “шрам”, который никогда полностью не исчезает. Впоследствии территория, где находится Аргайл, не распалась полностью, но стала растягиваться вдоль этого “шрама”. Разрывы в земной коре привели к тому, что магма начала вырываться на поверхность, поднимая розовые алмазы.

По мнению исследователей, полученные знания, теоретически, могут помочь найти новые месторождения розовых алмазов. Правда, на практике все может быть гораздо сложнее. Для того, чтобы алмазы оказались на поверхности Земли, необходим магматический апвеллинг, то есть подъем магмы, о чем мы уже рассказывали ранее. Поэтому все алмазы добываются в вулканических регионах. Однако участки, где могут быть розовые алмазы, расположены в центрах континентов, при этом вулканы, которые могут поднять драгоценные камни на поверхность, остаются еще неоткрытыми. Поэтому вряд ли в ближайшее время удастся найти месторождение, аналогичное Аргайлу.
