Ночная смерть нередко случается у людей с эпилепсией, чьи припадки не удается полностью контролировать препаратами. Надо сказать, что внезапная неожиданная смерть при эпилепсии (SUDEP) плохо изучена, поэтому ее причины неизвестны. Однако некоторые исследования показали, что во сне риск SUDEP сильно увеличивается.
Другая распространенная причина ночной смерти — инсульт. Порядка 25% всех инсультов происходит во сне. К слову, риск инсульта во сне повышает вышеупомянутый синдром обструктивного апноэ. Напомним, что инсульт возникает, когда тромб или разорванный кровеносный сосуд не позволяют крови поступать в мозг. Без кислорода клетки мозга быстро умирают, в результате чего части тела, которым управляют поврежденные области мозга, перестают функционировать. Правда, в последнее время некоторые ученые утверждают, что на самом деле мозг может прожить без кислорода гораздо дольше, чем предполагалось ранее.

Как снизить риск смерти во сне
Людям с повышенным риском ночной смерти необходимо следить за своим здоровьем, то есть регулярно наблюдаться у врача.
