В конце октября 2023 года на южном полушарии Солнца образовалась гигантская трещина, ширина которой равна протяженности России с востока на запад. По данным авторов издания Space.com, огромная трещина на Солнце появилась 31 октября. По оценкам астрономов, ширина огненного каньона составляет примерно 10 тысяч километров — для сравнения, ширина российской территории равна 9 тысячам километров. Длина разлома в десяток раз больше и составляет примерно 100 тысяч километров.

Специалисты из Spaceweather.com считают, что трещина образовалась в результате разрыва солнечной нити на Солнце. Так называются дуги наэлектризованного газа или плазмы, которые находятся над поверхностью самой близкой к Земле звезды и образуются под влиянием магнитного поля. Если магнитное поле становится нестабильным, солнечные нити могут разрываться, что и произошло в конце октября.
Интересный факт: взрывы солнечных нитей в зарубежной литературе называются хайдерскими вспышками, в честь американского астрофизика Чарльза Хайдера, который рассказал об этих явлениях в 1967 году.

Она выглядела как темное пятно, и обладала весьма внушительной длиной в 800 тысяч километров. В то время возник большой риск того, что на Земле произойдет техногенная катастрофа из-за поломки спутников связи и навигации, а также ряда других технологий. Это могло привести к серьезным экономическим и социальным проблемам но, к счастью, все обошлось.
