Повреждение таких кабелей может не только оставить многие страны без интернета, но и нарушить работу облачных сервисов, принадлежащих Google, Microsoft, Facebook и другим IT-гигантам.

Что такое интернет кабели
Как мы ранее уже рассказывали, основой сети Интернет являются 13 корневых DNS серверов, а также ряда дочерних серверов, через которые осуществляется доступ к серверам в дата-центрах, на которых хранятся данные. Все сервера находятся на разных континентах. Поэтому для соединения ключевых элементов Интернета в единую сеть используются кабели.
Передача данных по кабелям осуществляется через оптические волокна толщиной в человеческий волос. Кабель же представляет собой большой пучок таких волокон, помещенных в защитную оболочку. В настоящее время проложены сотни подводных кабелей для передачи данных между континентами. Длина самого длинного из них составляет 40 тысяч километров — он соединяет Германию и Австралию. Для прокладки таких кабелей используются специальные суда.

Уязвимость кабелей в Красном море
Прокладка кабелей по дну океана, с одной стороны, упрощает задачу, так как на пути нет никаких препятствий, а с другой стороны — обеспечивает им безопасность. Риск того, что кабель будет поврежден в результате действий злоумышленников, какого-либо стихийного или техногенного действия сведен к минимуму.
Однако существуют участки, где интернет кабели весьма уязвимы. Одним из них является Красное море. На его дне сосредоточено полтора десятка кабелей, которые соединяют Европу, Азию и Африку. По оценкам экспертов, не менее 17% мирового интернет-трафика проходит по этим кабелям. Многие из них не толще шланга.
Кабели в Красном море пролегают на расстоянии 2000 километров, также они пересекают сушу в Египте протяженностью 160 км, через которую попадают в Средиземное море, благодаря чему соединяют Европу с Азией.

Красное море является самым уязвимым участком для кабелей глобального интернета
За последние 20 лет данный маршрут неоднократно показывал, что является самым уязвимым на Земле, так как здесь регулярно происходят повреждения кабелей. Например, 7 июля 2022 года на этом участке произошло повреждение упомянутого выше кабеля AAE-1, в результате чего пострадали 7 стран и ряд облачных сервисов. Больше всего пострадала Эфиопия, которая потеряла 90% трафика, а также Сомали, где потери трафика составили 85%.
Причины такой уязвимости существуют разные. Во-первых, Красное море не очень глубокое — средняя его глубина составляет 490 метров. Регион, как известно, неспокойный. Кроме того, имеется участок, где кабели проходят по суше.
В Красном море повреждены четыре телекоммуникационных кабеля
Во вторник 5 марта 2024 года весь мир облетела новость о том, что в Красном море повреждены сразу четыре кабеля в водах, которые находятся под юрисдикцией Йемена. Как сообщает издание Sky News, повреждение этих кабелей затронуло 25% трафика, проходящего через Красное море по линиям, передающим данные в Африку, Азию и на Ближний Восток.
Больше всего от повреждения кабелей пострадали страны Персидского залива и Индия. Поврежденными оказались кабели компаний Seacom, TGN, AAE-1, EIG, о чем сообщает гонконгская компания HGC Global Communications. В настоящее время специалисты работают над перенаправлением трафика на другие маршруты.
