Почему мыши умнее, чем о них думали
Некоторые предыдущие эксперименты показали, что мыши действительно плохо справляются с некоторыми задачами. Однако ученые предположили, что на самом деле они знают о решении задач больше, чем кажется на первый взгляд, но допускали ошибки либо из-за стресса, либо целенаправленно — использовали «стратегию исследования и проверки своих знаний».
Чтобы выяснить это, ученые провели исследование, результаты которого были опубликованы в журнале Current Biology. Авторы работы предоставили мышам колесо, которое они должны были крутить влево или вправо, в зависимости от услышанного звука. То есть мыши по звуку должны были определить, в какую сторону нужно повернуть колесо. За правильный ответ им давали вознаграждение в виде лакомства.
Когда мыши слышали звук, они совершали небольшой поворот колеса влево, а затем поворачивали вправо, допуская на первый взгляд ошибку. Ученые обратили внимание на то, что мыши действовали целеустремленно. По мнению авторов работы, это и есть стратегия исследования. Грызуны руководствуются такой логикой — “я пойду на некоторое время налево, во всем разберусь, а затем пойду направо на какое-то время, пока”. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что мыши на самом деле более стратегичны, чем можно подумать. Но так ли это на самом деле или ученые ошиблись?

Можно предположить, что исследователи просто приписывают грызунам способности, которыми они не обладают. Однако, чтобы исключить такую вероятность, авторы работы продолжили исследование, но немного изменили эксперимент — исключили из теста вознаграждение. В результате обнаружили, что когда мышь действовала правильно, но не получала вознаграждение, при повторном тестировании она удваивала правильный ответ. То есть грызуны два раза поворачивала колесо в правильную сторону.

При решении задачи мыши действуют по стратегии
Как сообщают исследователи, если у животного имеется модель решения задачи, отсутствие награды должно нарушить его ожидания. Это должно повлиять на поведение в следующих испытаниях. То есть животное руководствуется такой логикой — “я ожидал получить награду, но не получил, так что позвольте мне проверить свои знания, и посмотреть, насколько они правильные”. Такое мышление закономерно приводит к изменению стратегии.
Если бы у мышей не было модели решения задачи, отсутствие вознаграждения никак бы не отразилось на поведении. Мыши продолжали бы действовать так же, как и ранее, то есть плохо решали задачу. По мнению авторов исследования, такую стратегию мышей можно сравнить с младенцами, которые не разговаривают. Действия таких детей часто тоже носят исследовательский характер, они могут проверять свои гипотезы различными способами.

Надо сказать, что в последнее время ученые часто пересматривают свои представления и когнитивных способностях различных животных. Прежде всего, они пришли к выводу, что все позвоночные и даже некоторые насекомые обладают сознанием. Некоторые же животные просто поражают своими умственными способностями. Например, недавно выяснилось, что вороны обладают рекурсивным мышлением, которое ранее считалось характерным только для людей. В результате эти птицы оказались даже умнее обезьян.
