Что такое холодная сварка

Почему это происходит? На самом деле все очень просто — когда две металлические поверхности соприкасаются друг с другом в вакууме, между ними нет ничего. Это значит, что атомы на двух металлических поверхностях начинают соприкасаться друг с другом и взаимодействовать так же, как они взаимодействуют со своими соседними атомами, расположенными глубже в металле. Проще говоря, они связываются друг с другом.
Холодная сварка позволяет соединять не только однотипные, но и разные виды металлов. Правда, на практике использовать ее гораздо сложнее, чем это выглядит в теории. То есть невозможно просто поместить две детали в безвоздушной пространство и соединить их, чтобы они приварились друг к другу. Для осуществления этого процесса в земных условиях, необходимо идеально очистить поверхности и обеспечить определенное давление.
Однако в наномасштабах холодная сварка осуществляется довольно легко. Например, если взять две отдельные части золотой нанопроволоки и соединить их, они приварятся друг к другу. Причем соединение получится качественным — сложно будет поверить, что когда-то это были две отдельные части проволоки из одного и того же металла. Поэтому холодную сварку часто используют при соединении крошечных элементов.

Как вы наверняка уже догадались, проблема, с которой столкнулись ученые в космосе — это холодная сварка. Любые контакты металл-металл на космическом корабле подвержены высокому риску холодной сварки. Поэтому ее приходится учитывать инженерам, проектирующим космические корабли.
Холодная сварка может вывести из строя такие элементы, как HDRM (механизмы удержания и освобождения), многожильные провода, механические концевые упоры, зубья шестерен, подшипники и многие другие детали. Более того, в космосе уже происходили инциденты, вызванные этим процессом. Например, в 1991 году на космическом корабле “Галилео”, который участвовал в миссии “Юпитер”, не удалось развернуть антенну с высоким коэффициентом усиления. Как сообщает Европейское космическое агентство, в сложенном состоянии ее ребра соприкасались друг с другом, в результате чего в космосе они приварились.
Правда, миссия не провалилась, так как космический корабль имел еще одну антенну, которая не имела таких проблем. Но если бы ее не было, выход из строя такого узла означал бы конец важнейшей миссии по исследованию Солнечной системы.
