Лягушка как домашнее животное
Канадский город Фредериктон очень маленький и является домом всего лишь для 50 000 человек. Он бы никогда не был интересен для туристов, если бы не удивительная истории о Фреде Коулмане и его огромной лягушке по кличке Корнелия Вебстер.
Согласно легенде, в 1885 году мужчина по имени Фред Коулман плыл на лодке по озеру Килларни. Внезапно к нему прыгнула лягушка, которая относилась к виду лягушек-быков (Lithobates catesbeianus). Обычно они весят около 600 граммов, но найденная особь, судя по всему, была необычайно большой. Видимо, именно поэтому мужчина решил взять ее к себе в качестве необычного домашнего животного.

На протяжении последующих восьми лет Фред Коулман кормил ее кукурузной мукой, печеными бобами, жуками и даже поил виски. В конечном итоге у него выросла лягушка весом в 19 килограммов — по размерам ее можно было сравнить с собакой. Также, согласно легенде, земноводное слушалось своего хозяина и умело приходить на звук колокольчика.
Фред Коулман жил со своей лягушкой до загадочного взрыва динамита, которая погубила животное. После гибели любимца, мужчина отправил тело гиганта таксидермисту — специалисту, который создает чучела из животных. Сначала чучело стояло на входе в один из местных отелей, и посетители использовали ее в качестве пепельницы. Потом чучело лягушки очутилось среди экспонатов Краеведческого музея Фредериктона.

Фальшивки в музеях
Выставленное в музее чучело сделано в очень плохом качестве, окрашено в ярко-зеленый цвет и в целом производит впечатление дешевой подделки. Так что рассказанная выше история вполне может быть выдумкой для привлечения внимания туристов.

К тому же, лягушки не пьют жидкость через рот — они впитывают влагу через кожу в области живота и бедер. По мнению специалиста по позвоночным животным Дэвида Грина, существование настолько большой лягушки это смехотворная чепуха.
Чтобы развеять сомнения посетителей, представители музея могли бы дать специалистам взять образцы ДНК чучела и доказать, что когда-то давно она действительно была живой лягушкой. Но нет, музей наотрез отказывается от проведения ДНК-теста, а это уже предельно подозрительно.

Продавцы хотели показать, что их лекарства избавляет от ощущения «застрявшей лягушки» в горле. Лапки у чучела будто бы сделаны из воска, а из-под трещин видно нечто, похожее на искусственный материал.
