Русский писатель писатель Николай Гоголь очень боялся очнуться в гробу. В письмах друзьям он писал, что в случае смерти его не нужно сразу же хоронить — сначала нужно дождаться разложения тканей. Существует легенда, что после смерти он действительно очнулся в гробу. Якобы, при вскрытии могилы в 1931 году люди обнаружили, что тело Гоголя лежит лицом вниз, как будто он пытался выбраться из своей могилы. А еще говорят, что крышка его гроба была исцарапана изнутри. Убедительного доказательства того, что Гоголь был похоронен заживо, не существует. К тому же, после смерти специалисты сняли отпечаток с его лица чтобы сделать маску и заметили, что тело писателя начало разлагаться. Автор «Мертвых душ» вряд ли очнулся в гробу. А может ли такое вообще произойти?

Когда гроб уже был опущен в погребальную яму, на похороны приехала сестра усопшей. Гроб был снова поднят на поверхность, чтобы она могла попрощаться с родственницей. Мисс Блунден была объявлена мертвой в 1674 году. Ее тщательно осмотрели и похоронили. Но спустя некоторое время дети сообщили взрослым о том, что слышали шум со стороны могилы. Могильщики решили вскрыть гроб и с ужасом обнаружили, что похороненная девушка исцарапала себе кожу и разбила кулаки — она сильно мучилась и пыталась выбраться наружу.
Как оказалось, что девушка на самом деле не умерла, а просто погрузилась в очень глубокий сон после макового отвара.

- в 2013 году 57-летний мужчина из Псковской области был по ошибке признан мертвым и его поместили в морг. В морозильной камере он умер от холода;
- в 2015 году в республике Гондурас была похоронена беременная девушка в возрасте 16 лет. Вскоре после похорон, ее муж услышал крики о помощи и ее тело извлекли на поверхность. Спасти ее не удалось, потому что она задохнулась.
