Что происходит с ядром Земли
Внутреннее ядро находится на глубине 4800 километров, оно горячее Солнца, но при этом остается твердым. Вокруг него находится внешнее ядро — сверхгорячий слой расплавленных металлов. Подробная информация о структуре нашей планеты стала появляться сравнительно недавно — около 40 лет назад, когда исследователи начали картировать внутренние слои Земли на основе записей сейсмической активности. Ранее мы уже рассказывали, что по тому как сейсмические волны распространяются в недрах планеты, ученые могут сделать выводы о том, из каких материалов они состоят.
Тогда ученые впервые обнаружили, что скорость вращения внутреннего ядра вокруг своей оси отличается от скорости вращения остальной планеты. Оно вращалось немного быстрее. Однако, согласно результатам последнего исследования, ситуация стала изменяться с 2010 года. По какой-то причине скорость вращения внутреннего ядра стала снижаться. В результате оно теперь вращается даже медленнее, чем мантия и земная кора. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nature.

Вращение Земли может замедлиться
По мнению ученых, если скорость вращения внутреннего ядра продолжит замедляться, его гравитационное притяжение приведет в конечном итоге к замедлению скорости вращения и внешних слоев. То есть Земля начнет вращаться медленнее, чем сейчас, что приведет к увеличению продолжительности суток.
Правда, вы вряд ли это заметите, так как речь пока идет о тысячных долях секунды. Поэтому, скорее всего, людям не придется менять календари или продолжительность суток. Правда, все может измениться, если скорость вращения внутреннего ядра начнет замедляться еще сильнее, что тоже нельзя полностью исключить.

Почему замедляется ядро Земли
Ученые уже не первый раз замечают, что внутреннее ядро Земли замедляется. Этому явлению даже дали название — “возврат”. Оно обсуждается последние десять лет, однако доказать его очень сложно. В новом исследовании, чтобы подтвердить существование возврата, ученые использовали данные более 100 землетрясений, происходивших в одном и том же месте.
Землетрясения происходили вдоль границы тектонической плиты на Южных Сандвичевых островах, которые находятся в Атлантическом океане. Землетрясения происходили в период с 1991 по 2023 год. Каждое сейсмическое событие позволяло определить положение ядра относительно мантии. Сопоставляя эти данные, ученые смогли обнаружить, что скорость вращения ядра со временем изменяется в меньшую сторону.
Это исследование является наиболее убедительным доказательством замедления ядра. Однако причина этого явления пока неясна. Ученые предполагают, что это связано со “взбалтыванием окружающего жидкого железного ядра”. Но также вполне возможно, что внутреннее ядро замедляется из-за плотных областей каменистой мантии, которые обладают мощными гравитационными силами. То есть они могут служить гравитационным “тормозом”, таким же, как была Луна в свое время для Земли.
