Уже давно известно, что на Луне в небольшом количестве содержится вода. Например, в 2020 году об этом сообщало НАСА, позже эту информацию подтвердил китайский луноход Чанъэ-5. Согласно последним данным, H2O присутствует не только в труднодоступных кратерах, как предполагалось ранее, но и на других участках. Но откуда она там взялась? Предположения на этот счет выдвигались самые разные. Возможно, часть воды на Луне была изначально с момента ее возникновения. Также она образуется под воздействием солнечного ветра. Однако недавнее исследование показало еще один неожиданный источник воды, скапливающейся в так называемых “карманах” на Луне, которые никогда не видят солнечного света.

Откуда берется вода на Луне
Команда исследователей под руководством ученого Шуай Ли, сотрудника Гавайского университета в Маноа, связывает возникновение воды на Луне с магнитосферой нашей планеты. Последняя, как известно, обеспечивает нам защиту от заряженных высокоэнергетических частиц, выбрасываемых Солнцем.
Как объясняют исследователи, когда солнечный ветер врезается в магнитосферу, она деформируется. В результате с противоположной, то есть неосвещенной стороны Земли, образуется длинный магнитный хвост. Внутри этого хвоста возникает плазменный слой, образованный электронами и ионами солнечного ветра и самой Земли.

Когда Луна вращается вокруг нашей планеты, она проходит сквозь хвост магнитосферы. В этот момент магнитное поле Земли, фактически, защищает Луну от заряженных частиц точно так же, как и нашу планету. При этом солнечный свет по прежнему достигает поверхности спутника.
Как было сказано выше, вода может возникать на метеоритах и Луне под воздействием солнечного ветра. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что в момент, когда спутник находится под защитой магнитосферы Земли, вода образовываться не должна. Однако оборудование, которым оснащен индийский космический корабль Chandrayaan 1, показало совершенно другие результаты.
Данные дистанционного зондирования, собранные прибором Moon Mineralogy Mapper (MMM) в период с 2008 по 2009 год, указывают на то, что вода в этот момент образуется так же интенсивно, как и в моменты, когда Луна находится за пределами магнитосферного хвоста. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nature Astronomy.

Как Земля влияет на появление воды на Луне
Процессы, которые происходят на Луне, когда она находится хвоста магнитосферы, пока точно неизвестны. Скорее всего излучение высокоэнергетических электронов в хвосте магнитосферы оказывает такой же эффект, как ионы в солнечном ветре. Но не исключено существование и совершенно нового источника воды, не связанные напрямую с процессами, вызванными протонами солнечного ветра.
Ранее ученые обнаружили, что в момент, когда Луна проходит через магнитосферу Земли, кислород в ее хвосте окисляет железо в полярных регионах, то есть железо на Луне ржавеет. Эти открытия говорят о том, что Земля тесно связана с Луной во многих аспектах, многие из которых по сей день до конца неизвестны.
Команда будет продолжать исследовать плазменную среду вокруг Луны и содержание воды на лунных полюсах в разные моменты времени. Знание того, как распределяется вода и концентрируется на поверхности спутника имеет большое значение для будущих миссий. Вода нужна не только для жизнеобеспечения космонавтов, но и производства топлива. Если его удастся добывать по месту, естественный спутник можно будет использовать как площадку для запуска миссий на Марс и в другие уголки Солнечной системы.

Будущие наблюдения будут вестись в рамках миссии НАСА Artemis, которая включает в себя десять миссий. Ранее мы рассказывали, что одна из главных задач данной миссии заключается в отправке людей на Луну впервые за 50 лет. Предположительно, пилотируемый полет состоится в 2026 году.

Напомним, что поиском топлива на Луне также занималось индийское космическое агентство в рамках миссии Чандраян-3. Правда, поиски пока не увенчались успехом. Но, вполне возможно, что она продолжатся с наступлением следующего лунного дня. На момент написания статьи посадочный модуль и лунный ровер находятся в спящем состоянии, так как на спутнике началась ночь, в результате чего им неоткуда получать энергию.
