Причиной разрушительных землетрясений могут быть сильны дожди и наводнения
Как дожди вызывают землетрясения
Такие мощные землетрясения, как произошедшее в феврале в Турции, не являются большой неожиданностью для ученых. К примеру, о том, что оно рано или поздно в Турции произойдет катастрофа, ученым было известно давно. Две тектонические плиты здесь длительное время давили друг на друга, и со временем это давление только возрастало. 6 февраля произошла разрядка, в результате которой высвободилось колоссальное количество энергии.
Но бывают землетрясения, которые вызывают в научном мире недоумение, так как они происходит внутри плит и не связаны с вулканической активностью или деятельностью человека. Одно из таких землетрясений произошло 11 ноября 2019 года в деревнях Ле Тей и Сен-Томе, расположенных на юго-западе Франции. Их сила составила 4,9 балла, при этом обрушились сотни домов. Тот факт, что возраст домов составлял сотни лет, говорит об исключительности данного землетрясения. В противном случае дома были бы разрушены еще раньше.
Изначально предполагалось, что землетрясение связано с расположенным поблизости карьером. Однако дальнейшие исследования показали, что причиной этого события стали сильные длительные дожди, которые привели к наводнению.

Исследователи построили трехмерную геологическую модель региона вокруг места землетрясения с учетом пород, которые были извлечены из карьера с 1850 года. Так как породы извлекались в течение длительного периода времени, землетрясение возникнуть по этой причине не могло. Зато приток грунтовых вод и увлажненных почв произошел за месяц до землетрясения.
Ученые воспользовались данными о влажности почвы со спутника SMOS, и обнаружили, что давление дополнительной воды на почву было самым высоким как минимум за последние 10 лет. На глубине 1,2 километра это давление составляло порядка 1 миллиона паскалей. По мнению экспертов, такого давления, вызванного водой, могло быть достаточно, чтобы вызвать неглубокие линии разломов. Именно они, судя по всему, и стали причиной землетрясения, о чем сообщается в журнале Remote Sensing.
Почему землетрясение во Франции вызвало множественные разрушения
Сила землетрясения во Франции, как было сказано выше, составляла 4,9 балла, то есть была относительно невысокой. Но почему в таком случае многие дома были разрушены? Исследование показало, что эпицентр располагался близко к поверхности земли — на глубине около 1 километра. Обычно эпицентр землетрясений расположен на гораздо большей глубине.

Это косвенно подтверждает тот факт, что землетрясение связано с дождями. Кроме того, объясняет, почему землетрясение нанесло большой ущерб, причем, на небольшой территории. Как известно, чем выше к поверхности расположен эпицентр, те сильнее разрушения на поверхности.
Но ученых больше беспокоит сам прецедент. Обычно, когда специалисты оценивают риски, связанные с глобальным потеплением климата, уделяют внимание повышению уровня океана, усилению засух, штормов, наводнений и т.д. Однако никто не учитывает процессы, которые происходят в самой Земле.
Если ученые не ошиблись в своих выводы, то можно с уверенностью сказать, что в ближайшее время подобные явления будут усиливаться. То есть люди станут свидетелями землетрясений на тех участках планеты, где их быть не должно. Причем эти события могут становиться более экстремальными и опасными.
