С эволюционной точки зрения наши тела созданы для того, чтобы справляться с острым (кратковременным) стрессом. Тем не менее, хронический (длительный) стресс может иметь пагубные последствия для здоровья. Это подтверждает американский нейроэндокринолог Роберт Сапольски, который отмечает, что хронический стресс может привести к таким проблемам со здоровьем, как болезни сердца, диабет, и психические расстройства.
В своей книге «Почему у зебр не бывает инфаркта. Психология стресса» профессор Стэндфордского университета объясняет, почему хронический стресс, распространенный в современной жизни, может быть более разрушительным, чем острый стресс, с которым сталкивались наши предки.
Если мы слишком часто «включаем» реакцию на стресс или не можем «выключить» ее, когда стрессовое событие закончилось, реакция на стресс в конце концов может стать разрушительной. Чаще всего стрессогенные заболевания – это расстройства, вызванные чрезмерной реакцией на стресс – пишет Сапольски.

Пандемия и стресс
Несомненно, переломным моментом в показателях стресса стала пандемия COVID-19. Это явление усугубило стресс и негативные эмоции на глобальном уровне, как показали многочисленные научные исследования. Люди с большим «когнитивным резервом», по–видимому, лучше справляются с симптомами деменции, но когда уровень стресса высок или постоянен, этот резерв уменьшается, а значит вероятность того, что такие люди будут общаться и поддерживать уровень физической активности (оба данных фактора снижают вероятность развития деменции) снижается, – объясняют авторы научной работы.
Чтобы получить общее представление о когнитивном резерве, исследователи составили индекс, объединив различную информацию об уровне полученного участниками образования, сложности работы, на которой они работали дольше всего, а также о физической активности, досуге, социальных взаимодействиях и уровне стресса.

Полученные в ходе работы результаты показали, что кортизол (гормон стресса) по-видимому, истощает когнитивный резерв и связан с увеличением количества тау–белка, который образует клубки в клетках мозга, тем самым нарушая их функцию. Напомним, что тау-белки непосредственно связаны с развитием болезни Альцгеймера. Более того, его накопление может сделать человека более подверженным стрессу, а сам по себе стресс, вероятно, может вызвать изменения в тау-белке.

Еще одним фактором, ведущим к хроническому стрессу и объясняющим причину, по которой современное общество поголовно страдает от негативных эмоций и переживаний являются современные технологии и, разумеется, социальные сети. Результаты нового исследования показали, что молодые люди, которые регулярно просматривают чужой контент в социальных сетях, чаще испытывают тревогу, депрессию и стресс, чем активные пользователи, которые выкладывают свои собственные посты.
Для исследования, опубликованного в журнале Behavior & Information Technology, ученые опросили 288 участников в возрасте от 18 до 34 лет, чтобы понять взаимосвязь между различными стилями взаимодействия с социальными сетями, чувством одиночества и психологическим стрессом.

В ходе работы были рассмотрены три типа использования социальных сетей – пассивное (когда пользователи просматривали исключительно контент других пользователей), активное (когда пользователи размещали свой собственный контент, но напрямую не взаимодействовали с другими пользователями) и активно-социальное (когда они размещали свой собственный контент и взаимодействовали с другими пользователями и их контентом).

Результаты исследования показали, что пассивное использование социальных сетей связано с повышенным уровнем тревоги, депрессии и стресса. Любопытно, что создание контента и обмен им без прямого взаимодействия с другими людьми в Интернете положительно сказались на снижении стресса.
Пассивное использование социальных сетей не дает пользователям возможности для общения и самораскрытия, что может способствовать установлению связей и социальной поддержке. Это может привести к тому, что пользователи будут чувствовать себя изолированными и исключенными. Это чувство одиночества может привести к повышению уровня стресса, тревоги и депрессии, – объясняют авторы научной работы.
