Мокеле-мбембе — динозавр живущий в Африке
Согласно легендам, загадочное существо мокеле-мбембе живет рядом с африканской рекой Конго. Его название с языка лингала переводится как «тот, кто останавливает течение рек» — очевидцы уверяют, что похожее на динозавра создание с длинной шеей часто проходит реки и болота вброд. По данным издания IFL Science, животное также известно как эмела-нтоука, что с языка бомитаба переводится как «пожиратель верхних пальм».

Живущие возле реки Конго народы описывают мокеле-мбембе как существо длиной около 5-10 метров, с длинной шеей и хвостом. У загадочного существа четыре ноги, они короткие, а на задних конечностях есть три когтя. Кожа мокеле-мбембе окрашена в красновато-коричневый цвет, и в целом он похож на слона или бегемота. А если сравнивать его с каким-либо динозавров, то это точно зауропод — они как раз имели длинную шею и короткие ноги, а питались растениями.

Легенда о мокеле-мбембе
Про таинственного мокеле-мбембе было снято огромное количество документальных фильмов. Считается, что первые слухи о нем были задокументированы в 1776 году — тогда французский миссионер Ливен Бонавентура написал заметку о том, что увидел у реки Конго следы огромного существа. В 1859 году другой миссионер по имени Томас написал об огромных существах, которые живут у реки и являются источником мяса для местных жителей.
Со временем сообщений о загадочном мокеле-мбембе стало еще больше. В период между 1927 и 2011 годами было организовано 28 научных экспедиций. В ходе вылазки в 1976 году, исследователь Джеймс Пауэлл показывал местным жителям изображения древнего динозавра диплодока и те уверяли, что своими глазами видели похожее на него существо. Однако, несмотря на все усилия, ученым не удалось раскрыть эту тайну.

На сегодняшний день считается, что мокеле-мбембе — это всего лишь крупные особи слонов, носорогов и бегемотов. Они как раз часто останавливаются у реки Конго чтобы попить воды, а иногда и купаются. Во время купания, слоны поднимают свой хобот вверх — издалека его вполне можно принять за длинную шею древнего динозавра. Огромные следы, которые сотни лет назад были обнаружены миссионерами, тоже могли быть оставлены уже давно известными науке созданиями.

Жители США были особенно заинтересованы в обнаружении дожившего до наших дней динозавра и даже искренне верили в его существование. В начале 20 века там началась настоящая «диномания» и люди пытались узнать для себя как можно больше подробностей о древних созданиях. Считается, что многие мужчины и женщины не сомневались в существовании динозавров в Африке потому, что считали этот континент местом с гораздо более древними флорой и фауной, чем в других частях Земли.

Стоит отметить, что мокеле-мбембе — не единственное древнее создание, якобы живущее в джунглях Африки. Считается, в болотах Замбии обитает древнее существо, которое ест бегемотов. Из-за этого ему дали название чипекве, что переводится примерно как «убийца бегемотов». Считается, что это доживший до наших времен цератозавр, но доказательств этому, конечно же, не существует.
