Приправа васаби распространена в японской кухне
На этот раз сотрудники Университета Тохоку решили узнать как экстракт растения действует на умственные способности пожилых людей. Для этого они провели эксперимент, в котором приняли участие несколько десятков пожилых людей, которых разделили на две группы. Добровольцам из первой группы давали 100 мг экстракта васаби перед сном в течение 12 недель, а люди из второй группы получали плацебо, однако по вкусу и виду оно не отличалось от настоящего экстракта. До начала эксперимента и после его завершения все люди прошли тесты на умственные способности, в том числе на разные виды памяти, концентрацию внимания и пр.
Результаты исследования показали, что экстракт улучшил эпизодическую и рабочую память, о чем уже было сказано выше. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nutrients. К сожалению, долговременную память и другие когнитивные функции экстракт не улучшил, однако результат все равно очень хороший.
Почему васаби улучшает память
Исследование подтвердило, что васаби положительно влияет на мозг. Но с чем связан такой эффект? Давно известно, что васаби содержит много соединения 6-MSITC, которое обладает сильным противовоспалительным действием, а также антиоксидантными свойствами.

Васаби подавляет воспаление в гиппокампе
В экстракте, который получали участники эксперимента, было 0,8 мг 6-MSITC. Остальная часть экстракта включала в себя полимеры, которые связывают это соединение, а также другие вещества, помогавшие 6-MSITC попасть в кишечник и впитаться в кровь.
Авторы исследования предполагают, что данное соединение подавляет возрастное воспаление и устраняет окислительный стресс в гиппокампе, участке мозга, который отвечает за память, в то числе кратковременную и рабочую.
