Розовая фея — самый редкий и необычный вид броненосцев
Розовый волшебный броненосец (Chlamyphorus truncatus) имеет много названий различных — розовый волшебный броненосец, розовая фея, плащеносный броненосец, пичичиго. Еще его называют “пловцом”, или «песчаным пловцом», из-за того, что он перемещается под землей словно пловец в воде. Этот зверек является самым маленьким и необычным видом броненосцев. Длина взрослой особи составляет около 13 см, поэтому он помещается на ладони.
Плащеносный броненосец имеет очень тонкий полупрозрачный панцирь, который не полностью прикреплен к телу, что отличает его от всех других видов броненосцев. Под панцирем находится мягкая шелковистая шерсть. Интересная особенность животного заключается в том, что он пропускает сквозь панцирь кровь, что позволяет ему регулировать температуру своего тела. Отсюда и необычный розоватый цвет панциря.

Розовая фея живет на песчаных равнинах и сухих лугах Южной Америки. Благодаря обтекаемой форме тела, гладкому панцирю и мощным острым когтям, зверек способен погрузиться в рыхлый грунт за считанные секунды. Причем под землей это существо проводит большую часть своей жизни. На поверхности оно появляется очень редко, и в основном ночью, так как ведет ночной образ жизни.
Животное питается мелкими насекомыми, такими как муравьи, а также личинками, червями и растениями. На поверхность розовая фея выходит только в поисках пищи, если не может ничего найти под землей. Поэтому они попадаются на глаза крайне редко. К примеру, один исследователь в течение 13 лет искал Chlamyphorus truncatus в дикой природе, но так и не встретил ни одного из них. Соответственно, об их популяции и ареале обитания ученым известно очень мало. Возможно, они даже еще более редкие, чем европейские протеи, о которых мы рассказывали ранее.

Натуралисту Уго Регуэро удалось случайно обнаружить редкое животное в светлое время суток, когда он ехал недалеко от дома по гравийной дороге в центральной части Аргентины. Впереди него по тропинке не спеша брела розовая фея. Разумеется, ранее никогда в своей жизни этих броненосцев он не встречал.

Когда мужчина вышел из машины и подошел поближе, понял, что перед ним одно из самых редко встречающихся животных на планете. Тогда он взял камеру и стал его снимать, стараясь при этом не потревожить его. Также он подождал, чтобы зверек безопасно перебежал дорогу. Впоследствии снятые фото и видео были показаны специалистам, которые подтвердили, что Уго Регуэро удалось встретить розовую фею.
Удивительные факты о жизни розовых фей
Впервые животное было описано в 1825 году. С тех пор о нем появилось не слишком много новой информации. Одна из причин этому заключается в том, что розовые волшебные броненосцы, как мы выяснили, очень редко попадаются на глаза. В неволе же они практически сразу умирают. Примерно 95% особей погибают в течение 8 дней после того, как их извлекают из естественной среды обитания. Поэтому ученым приходится делать выводы о них на основе лишь редких встреч.
Большую часть жизни розовые броненосцы проводят под землей
Примечательно, что в дикой природе розовую фею всегда видят в одиночку. И случай, который произошел с Уго Регуэро, не стал исключением. Это наводит ученых на мысль, что животные ведут одиночный образ жизни. Самцы приходят к самкам, очевидно, лишь в период спаривания.
Животное сильно отличается от многих других видов броненосцев. К примеру у него нет видимых ушей. Во рту плащевой броненосец имеет 28 зубов одинаковой формы, при этом все они не содержат эмали.
В отличие от других собратьев по виду, панцирь зверька служит вовсе не для защиты, а является скорее элементом терморегуляции. Поэтому он очень тонкий и полупрозрачный. Из-за этого розовая фея, если оказывается на поверхности, становится легкой добычей даже для домашних собак и кошек.
