Вирусы помогают при раке
Сама идея использования вирусов против рака не новая. Еще в XIX веке медики обратили внимание на то, что у больных раком людей, заразившихся некоторыми вирусами, здоровье улучшалось. К таким вирусам относится грипп, гепатит, оспа, корь и некоторые другие.
В журнале Biochimie в 2023 году эти вирусы названы онколитическими, из-за их способности поражать злокачественные клетки. В 90-х годах ученые стали использовать методы генной инженерии, чтобы “настроить” вирусы определенным образом. Это должно было сделать их более эффективными, и в то же время безопасными для человека. Но в большинстве случаев добиться успеха не получилось.

Модифицированный вирус герпеса уже используется для лечения рака
В настоящее время только четыре вируса получили одобрение в качестве специфических методов лечения рака. Среди них два модифицированных вируса герпеса. Один из них одобрен в Японии для лечения злокачественной глиомы, а другой в США для лечения меланомы. Кроме того, в настоящее время довольно много вирусов проходят клинические испытания.
Вирус зика уничтожает раковые клетки
Как мы уже сказали, вирус зика опасен не столько своими симптомами, сколько влиянием на развитие плода у беременных. А именно — он замедляет рост мозга у развивающегося плода. Связано это с тем, что вирус поражает незрелые нервные клетки. Это натолкнуло доктора Тамару Уэстморленд, хирурга детской больницы Немур, старшего автора исследования, на мысль, что вирус может быть использован для лечения нейробластомы.
Нейробластомой называется рак, который возникает из незрелых нервных клеток. Причем он является одним из наиболее часто диагностируемых видов рака у младенцев. Выживаемость при нейробластоме очень низкая даже при интенсивном лечении. Кроме того, существующие методы лечения имеют серьезные побочные эффекты. Поэтому потребность в новом методе лечения очевидна.

Вирус зика уничтожает клетки нейробластомы
В новом исследовании ученые протестировали вирус зика на мышах, правда, предварительно им были имплантированы человеческие клетки нейробластомы. Причем клетки были взяты от людей, которым лечение не помогло. После заражения мышей вирусом зика, у них не возникло каких-либо серьезных побочных эффектов, как это обычно бывает у людей.
Как сообщают исследователи, в опухолях мышей наблюдалась практически полная гибель тканей. При этом окружающие, то есть здоровые ткани, оказались неповрежденными. По мнению исследователей, вирус зика может быть использован как дополнительная терапия после лучевой терапии или операции. Он может удалить оставшиеся выжившие клетки, от которых не удалось избавиться другими методами.
Вирус зика может помочь при разных видах рака
Как сообщают исследователи в журнале Cancer Research Communications,
нейробластома экспрессирует специфический белок CD2, что делает ее уязвимой к вирусу зика. Этот же белок экспрессируется при многих других видах рака. Поэтому можно предположить, что вирус зика также может быть эффективен при других видах рака. Но, чтобы подтвердить это, понадобятся дополнительные исследования.
