Рост увеличивает риск рака
Исследование сотрудников всемирного фонда исследований рака далеко не первое, которое установило связь между повышенным риском развития рака и ростом человека. Например, в 2011 году исследование показало, у высоких женщин повышен риск развития 15 из 17 изученных видов онкологических заболеваний. Причем, чем выше человек, тем выше у него риск заболеть раком.
Исследователи установили, что каждое увеличение роста на 10% повышает риск рака на 16%. Такая же взаимосвязь была обнаружена между ростом и риском развития рака у мужчин. Конечно, 16% — это не так много. Например, если из 10 тысяч женщин ростом 165 сантиметров заболевают раком ежегодно 45 человек в год, то из 10 тысяч женщин ростом 175 сантиметров заболевают ежегодно раком 52 человека. То есть увеличение составляет всего 7 случаев в год на 10 тысяч человек, но все же оно имеется.

В 2019 году исследование корейских ученых также показало, что среди более 765 тысяч пациентов почти всеми видами рака чаще болели высокие люди. Однако для разных видов рака коэффициент риска с увеличением роста был разным. В среднем для всех видов рака увеличение роста на 5 см повышало коэффициент на 1,09. Наиболее высоким он был для рака щитовидной железы, а также рака груди, яичников, почек и лимфомы.
Кроме того, наиболее выраженной связь была у женщин и некурящих мужчин. Однако у других групп она тоже четко прослеживалась. Все это говорит о том, что сомнений быть не может — высокие люди действительно болеют онкологическими заболеваниями чаще. Но с чем это связано?

Согласно одной из них, у более высоких людей просто больше клеток в организме, например, более длинная толстая кишка. Соответственно, чем больше клеток, тем больше вероятности, что какие-то из них станут злокачественными. То есть срабатывает теория вероятности, как в случае, например, с покупкой лотерейных билетов — чем больше вы их купите, тем больше шанс получить выигрыш.
Но это еще не все — ученые считают, что рак возникает из-за накопления ошибок, или повреждений в генах, которые возникают при делении клетки. Поэтому, чем больше делится клетка, тем больше она накапливает генетических ошибок, которые передаются новым клеткам. В какой-то момент ошибки приводят к перерастанию здоровых клеток в злокачественные. К слову, согласно одной из версий рак изначально возник из-за изменения генов у наших предков, после того, как они переболели древним вирусом.
У высоких людей клеткам приходится делиться большее количество раз, соответственно, это тоже повышается риск развития рака. Надо сказать, что некоторые исследования подтвердили верность идеи, что наличие большего количества клеток повышает риск появления злокачественных опухолей. Связан ли риск рака с размером органов
