Кроме того, как уже было сказано выше, кофейные отходы сами по себе негативно воздействуют на окружающую среду. Оказываясь на свалках, они выделяют большое количество парниковых газов, включая метан и углекислый газ. Напомним, что эти парниковые газы могут влиять на глобальное потепление климата. Надо сказать, что ранее ученые придумали технологию создания экологичного полиэтилена с применением кофе, но она так и не нашла широкого применения.
Как отходы кофе можно использовать в бетоне
Как сообщают авторы недавнего исследования, кофейную гущу, как и другие органические продукты, нельзя добавлять непосредственно в бетон. Они выделяют определенные химические вещества, которые негативно влияют на прочность материала. Поэтому команда предварительно нагрела кофейные отходы до 350 градусов по Цельсию, что лишило кофейную гущу кислорода в результате пиролиза.
Пиролизом называется процесс разложения органических (иногда и неорганических) соединений под воздействием температуры.
В результате этого процесса возникает пористый, богатый углеродом древесный уголь. Он способен скреплять структуру бетона еще лучше, чем песок. В результате добавление угля позволило ученым повысить прочность бетона на 30%. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Journal of Cleaner Production.

Исследователи также в качестве эксперимента попробовали термически обработать кофейную гущу при температуре 500 градусов. Но полученный уголь не давал такой высокой прочности бетону, как образованный при температуре 350 градусов.

Повышение прочности бетона позволит снизить затраты на строительство, так как для возведения конструкций понадобится меньше строительного материала. Кроме того, сверхпрочный бетон пригодится для строительства важных объектов, требовательных к прочности.

Правда, прежде чем применять данную технологию в строительстве, необходимо изучить все свойства строительного материала, которые он приобретает после добавления кофейного угля. Пока еще ученые не могут сказать насколько полученный ими бетон долговечный, устойчивый к циклам замораживания и размораживания. Также тестируется его водопоглощение, пластичность, устойчивость к истиранию и другие свойства, отвечающие за устойчивость к различным нагрузкам и экстремальным ситуациям. От результатов этих исследований будет зависеть область применения кофе-бетона.

Остается только одна проблема — в результате глобального потепления климата кофе может стать дефицитным продуктом, так как объемы его производства уменьшатся.
