Раскрыть секрет строения не сложно, если посмотреть на него сверху — за фасадом нет крыши, и вообще оно представляет собой просто короб, фальшивый фасад. Однако долгое время об этом мало кто догадывался, даже жители близлежащих домов порой не замечали подвоха. Широкая известность этому сооружению пришла, когда оно было подробно показано в третьей серии 3 сезона сериала “Шерлок”. Самое интересное, что фасад расположен в элитном районе британской столицы, где даже в XIX веке жилье покупали исключительно состоятельные и успешные люди.

История “фальшивого дома” в Лондоне
Название улицы “Leinster Gardens” переводится как Ленстерские сады. Она расположена в районе Бейсуотер, который стал активно застраиваться с середины XIX века. С тех пор и берет свое начало история фальшивого фасада, о котором далее пойдет речь. Район застраивался высокими домами. Разумеется, высокими они были по меркам Лондона 19 века. В настоящее время, например, существуют дома, которые содержат более 160 этажей.
Строения на Leinster Gardens имеют богато украшенные фасады с террасами, выполненными в стиле викторианской эпохи. Многие из этих домов в настоящее время являются памятниками архитектуры. Так как район быстро стал превращаться в густонаселенный, здесь активно начала развиваться инфраструктура. В частности, в 1860-х годах приступили к прокладке ветки метро. Строительные работы старались вести под землей, но не везде это было возможно, поэтому на некоторых участках строить приходилось открытым способом, то есть вырывалась огромная траншея, в которую укладывались рельсы для поездов.

В одном из домов на Leinster Gardens никогда не горит свет
Один из таких участков, где метро прокладывали открытым способом, проходил через Leinster Gardens. Разумеется, все препятствия, которые оказывались на пути ветки, приходилось сносить. К слову, дома иногда приходилось сносить даже просто для обустройства метро вентиляцией. Следует понимать, что в середине XIX века электрических поездов еще не было, поэтому под землей курсировали паровозы. В результате дом, где сейчас расположен в настоящее время фасад, был снесен.
Одна из причин, по которой Лондон стали называть “туманным” связана с метро. Во многих частях города из-под земли вырывался дым паровозов. В результате казалось, что город покрылся туманом.

Как несложно догадаться, ветка открытого метро не украшала собой панораму элитного района. Причем, на его месте располагалась вентиляционная шахта, которая обеспечивала выход дыма паровозов на поверхность. Жителям соседних домов это не понравилось. За фасадом дома скрывается открытый участок метро
Как было сказано изначально, жилье в этом районе стоило дорого и его покупали только богатые люди. Поэтому их волновала цена их недвижимости, которая могла снизиться. Поэтому они стали жаловаться и требовать от властей вернуть прежний вид улицы. Мэрия и руководство метро озадачились этим вопросом, и в конечном итоге решили восстановить фасад, который будет выглядеть точь в точь как снесенное ранее здание.
Эта идея позволила решить сразу несколько проблем — вернуть улице прежний вид, скрыть открытый участок метро, но при этом не вмешиваться в его работу, то есть не нарушать вентиляцию. В результате фальшивый фасад по сей день выполняет эту задачу. Решение оказалось вполне удачным.
Надо сказать, что фасад был воссоздан очень реалистично. Поэтому подмену, как было сказано выше, не замечали даже многие люди, которые живут в соседних домах. Однако дом все же имеет некоторую особенность — у него нет дверных ручек и почтовых ящиков, а окна просто нарисованы. Но, чтобы обратить на это внимание, необходимо к нему присмотреться.
