Нептун представляет собой ледяную планету-гигант, которая находится на самом дальнем расстоянии от Солнца в Солнечной системе. Ее масса в 17,2 раза превышает массу Земли, а по диаметру экватора эта планета почти в 4 раза больше нашей планеты. Характерной особенностью Нептуна является его синий цвет, который объясняется содержанием метана во внешних слоях атмосферы. Однако этот цвет неоднороден. В далеком 1989 году космический аппарат НАСА “Вояджер-2” выявил таинственное темное пятно в атмосфере Нептуна. И хотя темные пятна на планетах не являются редкостью, на ледяном гиганте оно было очень странным, так как со временем исчезло. В 2018 году космический телескоп «Хаббл» зафиксировал несколько новых загадочных пятен на поверхности Нептуна, причем они уже охватывали как южное, так и северное полушария планеты. Ученые пока не знают их природу, однако новое исследование может пролить свет на их появление.

Темные пятна на планетах астрономы изучают уже не одну сотню лет. Например «Большое красное пятно» на Юпитере, которое представляет собой бушующий шторм, является предметом исследования по меньшей мере последние 200 лет. Однако пятнам на Нептуне, как было сказано выше, ученые по сей день не могут найти объяснение.
Они имеют впечатляющие размеры — их диаметр составляет от 10 до 15 тысяч км. Изначально, когда аппарат НАСА «Вояджером-2» обнаружил пятно, получившее впоследствии название «Большое Темное Пятно», ученые предположили, что оно схоже с «Большим красным пятном» на Юпитере. Однако позже выяснилось, что оно имеет серьезные отличия. Однако досконально изучить его не удалось. К слову, «Вояджером-2» является вообще единственным аппаратом, который видел Нептун с близи.
Предположения относительно темных пятен назывались самые разные. Согласно одному из них, они вызваны более высокой плотностью облаков. Соответственно, исчезновение темных пятен связано с рассеиванием облаков над замерзшей поверхностью ледяного гиганта в результате ураганов. То есть сильный ветер просто разгоняет облака, в результате чего оголяется более темная поверхность планеты.
Большое Темное Пятно на Нептуне
Загадочное пятно, обнаруженное телескоп «Хаббл» в 2018 году, привлекло внимание Патрика Ирвина, профессора Оксфордского университета, который впоследствии возглавил группу ученых, занявшейся изучением Нептуна. Для своих исследований команда использовала спектроскопический телескоп VLT (MUSE). Основное внимание было сосредоточено на определенной области в северном полушарии планеты, где было выявлено темное пятно.
Главной задачей исследования было опровержение или подтверждение предложенной ранее теории о том, что темные пятна образованы высокой плотностью облаков. В результате наблюдений ученым удалось обнаружить светлое яркое пятно DBS-2019, которое ранее не попадалось взору астрономов. Причем оно расположено рядом с темным пятном, что добавило в исследование еще больше интриги.

Откуда взялись на ледяном гиганте пятна
Чтобы получить больше информации о пятнах, исследователи разделили отраженный свет на различные составляющие цвета — синий, зеленый и красный. В результате им удалось обнаружить, что темное пятно не связано с более высокой плотностью облаков, как предполагалось изначально. На самом деле оно возникло по другой причине — частицы в атмосфере в области пятна сами по себе имеют более темный оттенок и излучают свет с длиной волны 700 нанометров, что соответствует красному цвету в электромагнитном спектре. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nature Astronomy.
Светлое пятно, которое заметили астрономы, расположено на том же уровне атмосферы, что и темное пятно. Причем его не видно было во время предыдущих наблюдений, проведенных несколькими неделями ранее. Это может говорить о том, что светлое пятно является краткосрочным или временным явлением.
Близкое расположение светлого пятна к темному вызвало большой интерес у ученых. Вполне возможно, что между ними имеется какая-то взаимосвязь. Причина их появления пока неизвестна, но исследователи имеют несколько гипотез на этот счет. Согласно одной из них, темные частицы с поверхности планеты поднимаются в атмосферу при помощи неких восходящих потоков.

Согласно другой версии, ультрафиолетовый свет способствует локальному нагреву поверхности планеты, в результате чего твердый сероводородный лед тает и превращается в газовую форму, которая образует темные облака. Как говорят сами исследователи, для полного понимания происходящего им необходимы дополнительные исследования и моделирование. Для этого ученые планируют в ближайшее время задействовать телескоп Джеймса Уэбба. Поэтому тайна темных пятен на Нептуне может быть вскоре раскрыта.
