Новая беспроводная технология
Все существующие в настоящее время способы беспроводной связи, которые используются в смартфонах и всевозможных гаджетах, такие как Wi-Fi, 5G и Bluetooth, основаны на классической радиосвязи. То есть передача данных осуществляется при помощи электромагнитных волн, которые генерируются модуляцией электромагнитного поля.
Новая же технология, о которой идет речь, использует для передач данных модуляцию электрического поля. Устройства передачи данных будут использовать усилители напряжения, которые генерируют электрическое поле ближнего действия. Правда, параллельно они также генерируют и слабое электромагнитное поле. Однако электроды для приема сигнала смогут принимать только те данные, которые поступают через электрическое поле.
Надо сказать, что обычные радиосистемы тоже создают электрические поля вместе с электромагнитными полями. Однако они быстро затухают и не участвуют в передачи данных. В новой же технологии, как вы поняли, все с точностью до наоборот.

Плюсы и минусы технологии EPSComm
Технология, о которой идет речь, получила название “Связь с определением электрического потенциала” (EPSComm). Как сообщается, приемное устройство расходует энергию только в момент приема сигнала, а не все время, как в случае с радиосвязью. В результате расходует гораздо меньше энергии, чем, например, Bluetooth.
Во время экспериментов исследователи обнаружили, что EPSComm потребляет в 10 раз меньше энергии, чем вышеупомянутый Блютуз. По мнению разработчиков, внедрение связи с определением электрического потенциала позволит увеличить автономность мобильных устройств примерно в четыре-пять раз, о чем сообщает издание Live Science.
Кроме того, благодаря новой технологии, в устройствах можно будет использовать миниатюрные батареи, а значит носимые гаджеты можно будет сделать еще более компактными. Например, это касается электроники, интегрированной в одежду, наушников, смарт-часов и т.д.

Bluetooth превосходит EPSComm по скорости передачи данных и радиусу действия
Скорость передачи данных EPSComm достигла 600 килобит в секунду. Это в настоящее время не так много, тот же Bluetooth 5.0 имеет скорость 2 Мбит/сек. Однако этой скорости достаточно для приложений, работающих с потоковым аудио и видео, а также виртуальной реальностью. Надо сказать, что первое поколение Bluetooth передавало данные со скоростью не более 125 кбит/с. Поэтому, вполне возможно, что скорость EPSComm тоже в будущем ученым удастся увеличить.
Однако у новой технологии есть другой серьезный недостаток — она позволяет передавать данные только на небольшое расстояние. С одной стороны, это позволяет избежать перехвата данных и подслушивания, но с другой — ограничивает использование. Блютуз имеет гораздо больший радиус действия, благодаря чему является более универсальной технологией.

Кроме того, размер датчиков EPSComm составляет примерно 3 на 3 сантиметра. Это слишком большой размер, например, в наушники такой датчик поместить не удастся. Да и для смартфона он слишком большой. Остается надеяться на то, что технология будет все же усовершенствована. Кроме того, она может использоваться не как альтернатива существующим способам беспроводной связи, а дополнение в ситуациях, когда это возможно.
