В последнее время многие космические агентства разных стран пытаются отправить на Луну свои посадочные модули. При этом раз за разом мы видим провалы этих миссий. Лишь некоторым аппаратам удается успешно прилуниться. Например, впервые за последние 50 лет на поверхность естественного спутника Земли сел космический корабль с оборудованием НАСА. Однако даже эта миссия не прошла гладко — во время посадки аппарат перевернулся, и вообще смог достичь невредимым поверхности Луны только благодаря счастливой случайности. В результате возникает вопрос — почему за последние полвека не удалось достичь прогресса? Ведь в период с 1968 по 1972 годы люди посещали Луну 9 раз, технологии развиваются, но складывается впечатление, что совершать подобные полеты стало только сложнее.

В настоящее время лишь пять стран смогли отправить свои аппараты на Луну — это США, Советский Союз, Китай, Индия и Япония. К слову, японская лунная миссия была не совсем удачной, как и американская программа “Одиссей”, о которой было сказано выше. Главным препятствием является отсутствие атмосферы на Луне. Если говорить точнее, атмосфера все же присутствует, однако она очень тонкая, причем со временем меняется. Поэтому использовать парашюты для прилунения кораблей невозможно. Вместо этого аппараты используют для спуска на поверхность двигатели. Это сильно усложняет замедление космического корабля с нескольких километров в секунду до полной остановки, так как необходимо с высокой точностью контролировать положение корабля относительно поверхности Луны, его движение по вертикали, скорость спуска и высоту

Освоение новых технологий
Со времен высадки людей на Луну изменилось совершенно все, включая технологии, которые использовались в рамках миссии “Аполлон” в 60-х и 70-х годах. Программное обеспечение, датчики и прочее оборудование, которое использовалось 50 лет назад, в настоящее время стало совершенно бесполезным. Это парадокс, связанный с развитием технологий.
С одной стороны, технологии стали более продвинутыми, но с другой — ученые теперь не могут использовать прошлый опыт для будущих полетов. Кроме того, поколение, которое занималось миссией “Аполлон” уже покинуло отрасль, в результате чего знания и опыт, фактически, утеряны. В результате космическим агентствам, в том числе и НАСА, приходится учиться “с нуля”.
Ограниченное финансирование
Технологии, конечно, играют важную роль в освоении космоса, однако еще более важным является финансирование. В 60-х и 70-х годах, в разгар космической гонки между США и Советским Союзом, программа “Аполлон” была основой задачей НАСА. При этом государство не жалело денег — бюджет превышал нынешний в 10 раз. В период с 1960 по 1973 год агентство потратило 25,8 миллиарда долларов (257 миллиардов долларов с поправкой на инфляцию). Эта сумма составляла почти 5% от общего федерального бюджета США.

В настоящее время космическим агентствам приходится работать с гораздо меньшими бюджетами, что сильно усложняет задачу. Например, НАСА получает менее 0,5% от общих федеральных расходов страны, причем этот бюджет расходуется не только на лунные миссии, но и все остальные, которых у агентства тоже не мало.
Снижение затрат требует поиска экономичных решений. Если раньше стоимость, например, космического аппарата в десятки миллиардов долларов НАСА устраивала, то теперь перед учеными стоит задача сократить расходы до 100 миллионов долларов. Кроме того, снижение затрат увеличивает риски неудач.
