Кроме того, оно не мертвое в полном понимании этого слова, так как в нем живут бактерии и другие некоторые виды микроорганизмов. Но зато оно является одним из самых соленых водоемов на планете, который примерно в 8-10 раз более соленый, чем любое из существующих морей и океанов. Из-за высокого содержания соли, плотность воды в Мертвом море настолько высокая, что в нем невозможно утонуть. По консистенции вода в нем больше похожа на оливковое масло, смешанное с песком.

Насколько Мертвое море соленое?
Мертвое море не самый соленый водоем на Земле, но второй по этому показателю. На первом же месте пруд Гаэтале, расположенный во впадине Данакиль в Эфиопии. В этом водоеме содержание соли составляет 43,3%, что является невероятным значением. Мертвое же море уступает пруду Гаэтале на 9%, так как содержание соли в нем составляет 34 процента.
Для сравнения, соленость мирового океана в среднем составляет 3,5 процента. Чтобы понять, какая вода в этом водоеме, можете взять банку, заполнить ее на треть солью и добавить воду. Соль при этом должна полностью раствориться. Из-за такой плотности, любой человек, который даже не умеет плавать, может спокойно лежать на воде в Мертвом море и, например, читать газету.
Но самое интересное, что содержание соли в водоеме постоянно увеличивается. Обсерватория Мертвого моря даже обнаружила, что на дне соль стала выпадать в осадок. В результате на дне озера скапливаются кристаллы соли, которые накапливаются. Каждый год толщина слоя увеличивается на несколько дюймов.

К этому всему следует добавить теплый климат в регионе, в результате чего вода быстро испаряется. Его уровень падает со скоростью около 1,2 метра в год, соответственно, плотность воды постоянно увеличивается. Особенно быстро накапливается соль в нижних слоях возле дна. Кроме того, вдоль берегов Мертвого моря бьет множество источников, богатых минералами.
Причина большого количества соленых источников связана с тектонической активностью. В результате возник один большой и очень соленый водоем. Как не сложно догадаться, в таких условиях ни рыбы, ни животные существовать не могут. Поэтому озеро и получило название “Мертвое”. Однако с 30-х годов стало известно, что оно не полностью мертвое. В нем существуют микроскопические организмы экстремофилы. К слову, Мертвое море — далеко не самая экстремальная среда, где существует жизнь.

Например, Археи существуют в количестве от тысячи до десяти тысяч на один кубический миллиметр воды. В 1992 году цветение зеленых водорослей Dunaliella parva буквально преобразило поверхность водоема, окрасив в красный цвет. В результате оно стало похожим на “кровавое” море. Как сообщают ученые, этот цвет был связан с содержанием большого количества вещества бактериоруберин.

К сожалению, из-за уменьшения притока новой воды и активному испарению, Мертвое море может постичь участь Аральского моря. То есть со временем оно может просто исчезнуть.
