Как поясняет профессор, при выполнении таких фигур как “бочка”, пилоту необходимо поддерживать перегрузку на уровне около 1g, то есть близкую к той, которую мы испытываем на Земле. К слову, пассажирским самолетам иногда все же приходится выдерживать сильные перегрузки, когда они входят в турбулентность, но сейчас речь не об этом. Чтобы осуществить маневр, пилот должен выполнить перекат (вращение вокруг своей оси) и одновременно поднять нос самолета вверх, а после этого дать носу опуститься вниз до разумного предела. Все это выполняется на скорости 885-965 км/ч.
Таким образом, единственным ограничением выполнения бочки является скорость вращения. Необходимо развернуть самолет до того, как нос окажется сильно наклоненным вниз. Пока самолет сохраняет разумный крен, выполнить бочку на нем можно так же, как и на любом другом самолете. Соответственно, пилот должен обладать большим опытом, чтобы контролировать все эти моменты.
Кроме того, есть и еще одно ограничение. По словам Дэвида Хаглунда, опытного пилота BBC США, для большого самолета требуется больше пространства, чтобы выполнить фигуру. Поэтому пилот должен правильно оценить доступное пространство, что особенно касается высоты — должно оставаться достаточно пространства для маневра как над самолетом, так и под ним.
