Как развивается эволюция на самом деле
Сотрудники Ноттингемского университета проанализировали пангеном, то есть совокупность всех последовательностей ДНК определенного вида (не имеет значения какого), общие для всех особей. Таким образом авторы работы хотели выяснить, может ли эволюционная история генома влиять на будущее его развитие.
Для своей работы исследователи использовали метод машинного обучения, получивший название “случайный лес”. ИИ обучали на наборе данных, включающих в себя 2500 полных геномов одного вида бактерий. В итоге при помощи обученного искусственного интеллекта они смогли классифицировать гены в каждом геноме. Как поясняют сами исследователи, проделанная работа позволила им выявить «семейства» генов, которые схожи между собой, но не идентичны полностью.

Ученые обнаружили семейства генов, которые взаимодействуют друг с другом
После того, как “семейства” генов были идентифицированы, ученые исследовали закономерности их присутствия в одних геномах и закономерности
отсутствия в других геномах. Как выяснилось, некоторые семейства генов никогда не появлялись в геноме, если в нем уже присутствовало какое-то другое семейство генов. В других же случаях некоторые гены присутствовали только совместно с другим определенным семейством генов. Об этом исследователи сообщают в издании PNAS.
Ученые, по сути, выявили некую “экосистему” генов, которые либо взаимодействуют, либо конкурируют друг с другом. Но, в любом случае, они каким-то образом зависят друг от друга. Это делает некоторые аспекты эволюции предсказуемыми. Более того, теперь ученые создали инструмент, который позволяет совершать прогнозы относительно будущей эволюции генома.
По мнению исследователей, последствия данного исследования являются революционными. Согласно сделанным выводам, на эволюционное развитие генома может влиять его эволюционное прошлое. Соответственно, исключается полная хаотичность последовательностей, предполагаемая ранее.

По словам ученых, им удалось “открыть дверь” множеству возможностей в синтетической биологии, медицине и науке об окружающей среде. Например, теперь исследователи могут начать изучать, какие гены “поддерживают” гены устойчивости бактерий к антибиотикам. Как мы рассказывали ранее, рост супербактерий в последнее время становится все более острой проблемой медицины. Чтобы устранить устойчивость к антибиотикам, можно воздействовать не только на главный «ген устойчивости», но и гены, которые его поддерживают.
Этот подход может быть использован для синтеза искусственных генетических конструкций, которые могут быть использованы в новых вакцинах или лекарственных препаратах. Более того, полученные результаты помогут создать микроорганизмы, предназначенные для улавливания углерода или разложения загрязнений, присутствующих в окружающей среде. В результате можно будет эффективно бороться с изменением климата и загрязнением окружающей среды.
