В сентябре 2022 года космический аппарат НАСА DART столкнулся с астероидом Диморфос, спутником более крупного астероида Дидимос. Задача миссии заключалась в том, чтобы сместить астероид с орбиты. Этот эксперимент стал первым шагом на пути к созданию системы защиты Земли от астероидов. Он прошел вполне успешно, но не так, как рассчитывали ученые. Ранее мы рассказывали, что астероид Диморфос ускорился на гораздо большую скорость, чем должен был по расчетам ученых. В недавнем же исследовании была обнаружена еще одна странность, которая стала неожиданностью для ученых — спустя некоторое время астероид стал замедляться. Самое интересное, что обнаружила это явление группа старшеклассников из американской школы The Thacher School.

Почему астероид Диморфос изменяет свою скорость
Столкновение космического аппарата DART с астероидом Диморфос продемонстрировало, что за счет кинетической энергии действительно можно повлиять на траекторию полета астероидов. Например, если когда-нибудь опасный астероид направится к Земле, ученые смогут обеспечить его отклонение от опасной траектории, чтобы избежать столкновения. Конечно, отклонение будет минимальным, так как космический аппарат имеет сравнительно небольшую массу по сравнению с массой небесного тела. Но если обеспечить столкновение заранее, то есть на большом расстоянии от Земли, даже минимального отклонения должно хватить, чтобы избежать катастрофы.
Согласно расчетам ученых НАСА, космический аппарат DART должен был придать астероиду ускорение, чтобы сократить период его обращение вокруг астероида Дидимос на 7 минут. Но в итоге это время сократилось на 33 минуты, во всяком случае, в первое время после удара, о чем мы рассказывали ранее. Ученые предполагают, что аномальное ускорение связано с выбросом газов, то есть возник эффект реактивного двигателя.

Но, как мы сказали выше, на этом странности не закончились. При помощи 0,7-метрового телескопа школьной обсерватории The Thacher School, школьники продолжили измерять период обращения Диморфоса, и обнаружили, что скорость небесного тела стала уменьшаться, причем это происходило в течение всего периода наблюдения. В результате уже спустя несколько дней после столкновения период обращения стал значительно больше, чем было указано в официальных сообщениях. Как сообщают начинающие исследователи, разница составляла 34 минуты.
Почему астероид Диморфос стал замедляться?
Поведение астероида стало неожиданным для ученых, но следует учитывать, что это был первый в истории подобный эксперимент. Поэтому многие нюансы изначально не были и не могли быть учтены. В частности, исследователи НАСА не предвидели последующее замедление астероида. Но с чем вообще оно было связано?

Ранее ученые сообщали, что в результате столкновения небесного тела с космическим аппаратом возник кратер диаметр в десятки метров, при том что диаметр всего астероида составляет 160 метров. Грунт из этого кратера был выброшен на орбиту. Однако со временем он стал падать на Диморфос. Падение обломков на астероид стало его замедлять, так как они передавали ему импульс. Это можно представить как столкновение двух бильярдных шаров, при котором изменяется их скорость и траектория.

Правда, пока все выводы относительно поведения астероида являются только предположением. Более точная информация будет получена только в конце 2026 года, когда космический аппарат Европейского космического агентства Hera достигнет системы двух астероидов и проведет исследование. В настоящее время Диморфос уже стабилизировал скорость и орбиту, поэтому новых неожиданных ситуаций быть не должно.
