Чтобы соединять разные части изделий, они использовали клей, получаемый из березовой коры. Судя по археологическим находкам, этот клей был не только полезен во время изготовления вещей, но и просто вкусным лакомством. В 1990-е годы ученым удалось найти несколько образцов этой доисторической жвачки и изучить сохранившиеся на них генетические следы. Изначально исследователи не были уверены, что тягучее вещество из древесной коры было пережевано людьми — ведь не исключено, что оно было во рту животных. Чтобы убедиться в правильности своих догадок, ученые провели анализ микробной ДНК в смоле. После этого они проверили, есть ли в них следы микробов, которые обычно содержались в слюне древних людей и содержатся во рту современных мужчин и женщин.

Здоровье зубов древних людей
Анализ показал, что жвачка действительно была во рту людей. В ней обнаружились следы бактерий, которые вызывают у нас пародонтит — болезнь десен, при которых они часто кровоточат, а зубы начинают шататься. Также ученым удалось найти следы бактерий, которые провоцируют развитие на зубах кариеса.
Что ели древние люди
Но на смоле были не только следы бактерий. Помимо них, ученым удалось найти в ней частицы фундука, яблок, форели и оленя. Также анализ показал, что в слюне древних людей каменного века содержались следы мяса уток, лисиц и даже волков. Все это не только означает то, что древние мужчины и женщины питались плодами всех этих растений и мясом животных. Не исключено, что люди использовали свои зубы во время изготовления разделки мяса и кожи, а также процессе изготовления орудий труда.
Интересный факт: ученым также удалось найти следы омелы. Это кустарник, который подобно паразитам получает воду и минералы из растения-хозяина. Его сок вполне мог использоваться древними людьми в медицинских целях или производства яда для смазывания наконечников стрел.

Примечательно, что в древние времена зубы людей зачастую хоть и были больными, они были ровными. Причина того, что у современных людей часто формируется неправильный прикус, заключается в строении нашего черепа. На изображениях со сравнением головы древнего и современного человека можно заметить, что у нас более узкая челюсть. Нашим зубам попросту не хватает места, чтобы выстроиться в один идеально ровный ряд. А широкие челюсти неандертальцев и так далее места было гораздо больше — там даже хватало пространства для зубов мудрости. Они, кстати, отсутствуют у жителей Мексики, что удивляет некоторых людей.
