Как ученые возродят мамонтов
Само собой разумеется, возрождение мамонтов является очень сложной задачей, потому что для этого применяется генная инженерия. Но то, что хотят сделать ученые, можно объяснить пошагово, простыми словами.
Чтобы возродить мамонтов, ученые сделают следующее:
- они узнают, какие гены обеспечивали мамонтов густой шерстью, толстым слоем жира, длинными бивнями и крупным черепом (ранее исследователи уже создали эмбрион с генетическими данными древних родственников слонов);
- найденные гены будут вставлены в ДНК азиатских слонов, после чего образуются стволовые клетки, способные превращаться в любую ткань организма;
- полученные стволовые клетки будут помещены в утробу самки или в искусственную матку для развития эмбриона и рождения мамонта.

Это максимально упрощенное объяснение того, что хочет сделать компания Colossal Biosciences. На данный момент ученые не знают точно, как новые гены отразятся на азиатских слонах. Но есть надежда, что из эмбрионов вырастут огромные животные с длинными бивнями и густой шерстью. Они не будут являться теми же мамонтами, которые жили десятки тысяч лет назад, но будут на них похожи как внешне, так и генетически.

Ученые хотят возродить мамонтов не только для демонстрации научного прогресса. Они хотят сделать это, чтобы спасти планету от глобального потепления и вымирания животных.
По мнению представителей компании, если выпустить возрожденных мамонтов на просторы Сибири, они будут прекрасно себя там чувствовать. Там холодно, но толстый слой жира и густая шерсть запросто их согреют.

Мамонты, как и слоны, травоядные животные
В холодных регионах нашей планеты они наверняка будут жить так, как и далекие предки. В поисках сочных веток они будут сбивать деревья, которых в Сибири очень много. Так они освободят больше места для роста травы, которой питаются многие виды местных животных. Отходы их жизнедеятельности станут отличным удобрением для ускорения ее роста. Также своими действиями мамонты помогут земле удерживать парниковые газы, из-за которых повышается средняя температура нашей планеты — ученые уже давно опасаются того, что при таянии вечной мерзлоты в Сибири будет высвобождено огромное количество углекислого газа.
