Китайский посадочный модуль “Чанъэ-4”, прилунившийся в 2019 году, имел на борту семена четырех видов растений. Задача ученых состояла в том, чтобы вырастить их на Луне. В результате этого эксперимента успешно проросло только семя хлопка. Тогда это событие привлекло много внимание ученых во всем мире. Однако просто прорастания семени недостаточно, чтобы говорить об успехе.
Растение должно не просто прорости, но вырасти и быть устойчивым к негативным условиям окружающей среды. При этом важно, чтобы культуры плодоносили и были достаточно урожайными. Несоответствие любому из этих требований может стать серьезной проблемой. Но, прежде чем перейти к полноценному выращиванию, необходимо выяснить насколько это вообще возможно. Поэтому во время миссии “Чанъэ-4” перед учеными не стояла задача вырастить растения в лунном грунте на открытом участке.
Некоторые предыдущие исследования показали, что грунт на Луне вполне для этих целей подходит. Что касается солнечного излучения, эту проблему можно решить, обеспечив купола или навесы над грядками. Единственная потенциальная проблема, которую невозможно решить — это гравитация. Но, как уже было сказано выше, она не оказалось преградой для выращивания растений за пределами Земли.

Как низкая гравитация помогает растениям
Несмотря на то, что опыт по выращиванию растений на Луне в рамках миссии “Чанъэ-4” был проведен еще в 2019 году, исследование было опубликовано сравнительно недавно — в июне 2023 года, а некоторая более подробная информация об этом опыте появилась еще позже.
Фактически, исследований было проведено сразу два — одно на Луне, а второе — на Земле. Ученые создали в лаборатории такие же условия для семян, как и на борту “Чанъэ-4”, то есть обеспечили такое же давление, температуру и влажность воздуха, а также использовали такую же почву, в которую были посажены семена на Луне. Задача состояла в том, чтобы сравнить как растения развиваются в одинаковых условиях на Земле и Луне. Единственное отличие заключалось в гравитации.
Как оказалось, маленькая гравитация значительно ускорила процесс прорастание семян. Правда, на Луне проросло только семя хлопка, в то время как на Земле проросли еще семена канолы.

Саженцы хлопка на Земле не перенесли низкую температуру, в отличие от такого же саженца на Луне
Самой большой проблемой для растения на Луне была долгая ночь, которая началась спустя девять земных дней после прилунения. В этот момент температура внутри отсека упала до -52°C. Причем тепло не возвращалось в течение 18 земных дней.
Казалось бы, это экстремальные условия, которые растения не может пережить, однако саженец к наступлению нового лунного дня оставался зеленым и стоял вертикально. На Земле же саженцы к этому моменту вполне закономерно погибли и имели уже черно-желтый цвет.
В результате лунный саженец смог пережить второй лунный день. Правда, его рост остановился, но ученые связывают это с нехваткой кислорода в отсеке. Учитывая, что на Земле и Луне отличалась только гравитация, можно сделать вывод, что именно она помогла растению пережить экстремальные условия. Об этом ученые сообщают в своих исследованиях, которые были опубликованы в журнале Microgravity Science and Technology и Acta Astronautica.
