Следы древних людей в Карпатах
Древние каменные орудия были обнаружены при раскопках в 70-х и 80-х годах, которые велись на стоянке Королева Закарпатской области. На этом участке советские археологи обнаружили поселение древних гоминид, которые жили в течение длительного времени. Об этом говорит наличие нескольких культурных слоев.
Среди артефактов были обнаружены рубила, чопперы, ядрища, отщепы и пр. Предположительно, каменные орудия принадлежали культурам людей нижнего палеолита. Это были сравнительно простые инструменты.

Каменное орудие, обнаруженное на стоянке в Королево
Изначально при датировании находок археологи ориентировались на магнитные характеристики прослоек грунта, в которых были обнаружены артефакты. Тогда исследования показали, что возраст орудий труда составляет 900 тысяч лет. Это делало их одними из самых древних в Европе, но не самыми древними. Как уже было сказано выше, орудия труда, обнаруженные во Франции и Испании были старше. Однако технологии датировки, применяемые 30-40 лет назад нельзя назвать точными.
Самые древние каменные орудия в Европе
Европейские палеонтологи и геологи решили повторно датировать находки со стоянки Королево, чтобы более точно выяснить их возраст. Для этого они использовали технологию, основанную на космогенных нуклидах — редких изотопах, образующихся при столкновении высокоэнергетических космических лучей с химическими элементами в минералах на поверхности Земли.
Как не сложно догадаться, в недрах Земли космогенные нуклиды не накапливаются. Они возникают только тогда, когда минерал находится на поверхности, то есть когда космические лучи взаимодействуют с атомами стабильного азота-14 и магния-26. Изменения концентрации этих космогенных нуклидов в находках и грунте, который находится выше, могут очень точно показать, как давно минерал был “захоронен” в слоях грунта.

Новое датирование показало, что каменные орудия, обнаруженные в Карпатах, являются самыми древними в Европе, но не самыми древними орудиями человека из когда-либо обнаруженных ранее. Например, возраст каменных орудий труда, найденных на Кавказе, составляет 1,78-1,85 млн лет.
Таким образом, сделанное открытие покрывает временной разрыв, между людьми, жившими на Кавказе 1,78-1,85 млн лет и в Европе 1,1-1,2 млн лет назад. Оно стало вещественным доказательством того, что центральные и восточные регионы Европы заселили группы древних людей, пришедших с востока, а не с юга.
