ВАЖНО: выражение «падающие звезды» — образное. На самом деле во время потока Персеид падают не звезды, а остатки сгорающих в атмосфере частиц огромной кометы Свифта-Туттля. Он был открыт в 1862 году и имеет 26-километровый диаметр.

Почему падают звезды
Персеиды — это метеорный поток, который каждый год начинается из-за прохождения Земли сквозь облака частиц кометы Свифта-Туттля, который движется вокруг Солнца. Когда наша планета проходит через его облако, о ее атмосферу ударяются тысячи обломков и сгорают при температуре 1650 градусов Цельсия. При сгорании они падают вниз со скоростью до 160 000 километров в час и оставляют после себя яркие следы. Именно их мы и воспринимаем как «падающие звезды».

Интересный факт: при виде падающей звезды люди загадывают желания. Народная традиция появилась из-за веры в то, что падающая звезда соединяет небо с землей. И именно в это редкое мгновение, якобы, можно просить мироздание об осуществлении своей мечты.
Как найти поток Персеиды
Ночью 11 августа Земля проходит сквозь самое плотное облако частиц Свифта-Туттля. Они будут сгорать в атмосфере чаще обычного, поэтому любители астрономии смогут наблюдать до 100 метеоров в час, или около 1–2 падающих звезд в минуту.

Чтобы увидеть падающие звезды Персеиды, жителям России нужно смотреть на На северо-восточную часть ночного неба. У Персеиды есть радиант — область неба, из которой «вылетают» метеоры. Она находится на границе созвездий Персея, Жирафа и Кассиопеи.
Вот что советуют специалисты из Московского планетария, чтобы быстро найти радиант Персеиды:
Ищите Кассиопею (перевернутую М), левее и ниже у горизонта светит яркая звезда Капелла (альфа Возничего) – между Кассиопеей и Капеллой располагается радиант Персеид.
Падающие звезды похожи на прочерчивающие небо светлые линии. Некоторые из них большие и светятся по несколько минут — это болиды. Чтобы увидеть метеоры, не обязательно долго искать радиант, потому что рано или поздно все равно станет понятно, откуда вылетают яркие огоньки.

Чтобы облегчить задачу, можно скачать на смартфон приложение с картой звездного неба. В Google Play и App Store можно так и написать: «карта звездного неба», и выбрать приложение по душе. Одним из лучших приложений такого рода считается Stellarium.
Помимо Персеиды, существует много других звездопадов. Например, в апреле 2023 года можно было увидеть звездопад Лириды.

Август — лучшее время для наблюдения за падающими звездами. Мало того, что в это время Земля проходит через плотное облако Свифта-Туттля и в атмосфере сгорает максимум частиц.
Персеиды называют самым лучшим метеорным потоком года еще по многим другим причинам. В августе преимущественно теплые ночи — по данным Gismeteo, ночью 11 августа 2023 года в Москве будет +20 градусов. Так же тепло будет в Питере, Казани и многих других городах России. Обзор может быть перекрыт разве что облаками, но пасмурной нынешнюю погоду назвать трудно, поэтому шансы на приятный просмотр Персеиды очень большие.
На звездопады лучше смотреть за пределами городов
В 2022 году звездопад Персеиды тоже был, и мы даже публиковали статью «Как наблюдать за звездопадом Персеиды ночью 11 августа». Но в прошлом году Луна светила очень ярко, из-за чего некоторые метеоры оставались невидимыми. А в 2023 году Луна будет менее яркой, поэтому у людей есть возможность увидеть даже самые тусклые звезды.

Как лучше смотреть на звездопад
Лучше всего звездопад виден за пределами городов, где нет искусственного света вроде уличных фонарей и витрин магазинов. Поэтому многие любители астрономии в августовские ночи выезжают на природу. По приезде лучше не доставать смартфоны и фонари, чтобы глаза привыкли к темноте и увидели все, что нужно.
