Пещера Ильзенхёле, в которой обнаружены останки древних людей
Самые ранние следы человека в центральной Европе
По мнению ученых, ответы на многие вопросы относительно сосуществования неандертальцев и современного человека содержатся в пещере Ильзенхёле, расположенной недалеко от города Ранис. Еще в 30-х годах XX века в ней были обнаружены кости и каменные листовидные наконечники. Подобные наконечники использовались на большой части Европы от Польши до Великобритании. Они считаются продуктом общей культуры, но неизвестно кто первым стал использовать данную технологию.
Предыдущие исследования пещеры Ильзенхёле показали, что возраст предметов, обнаруженных в ней, составляет не менее 40 тысяч лет. При этом было неизвестно, кому принадлежали орудия, неандертальцам или Хомо Сапиенс. Теперь же ученым удалось выяснить точный возраст находок и даже определить кому принадлежат кости.
Сотрудники Калифорнийского университета в Беркли использовали для своего исследования костные белки 13 костей из пещеры. Из них впоследствии они извлекли митохондриальную ДНК, и обнаружили, что останки принадлежали Homo sapiens. Причем все люди из пещеры имели общее происхождение по материнской линии, то есть были родственниками.

Каменные листовые наконечники, созданные Хомо Сапиенс
Для исследования были использованы девять костей, которые удалось найти еще во время первых раскопок в 30-х годах, а также четыре кости, обнаруженные недавно при повторных раскопках. Во время недавних работ учеными был удален валун, который остановил раскопки в XX веке. Это позволило получить доступ к слоям грунта, которые не удалось исследовать ранее.
Как сообщают авторы работы в журнале Nature, кости и инструменты были настолько перемешаны, что не возникаем сомнений в том, кто их изготовил. Это были те же люди, которым принадлежали кости. Согласно результатам исследования, возраст орудий труда составляет 45 тысяч лет назад. Это говорит о том, что технология изготовления листовых наконечников, скорее всего, принадлежит Хомо Сапиенс.

Если ученые не ошиблись в своем исследовании, значит современные люди длительное время жили рядом с неандертальцами. Несмотря на то, что температура в то время была на 7–15°C ниже, чем сегодня, климат не помешал нашим предкам распространяться по континенту и выживать в экстремальных условиях. Возможно, листовые наконечники в этом им помогли. В то же время появление современных людей не привело к исчезновению неандертальцев. То есть конкуренция или межвидовые войны не стали для неандертальцев губительными, как предполагалось ранее.
