Такое сырье нашлось — ими стали человеческие фекалии. Совместно с опытными химиками, компания разработала технологию, которая превращает добытые прямо из канализации отходы жизнедеятельности человека в «биологическую нефть». Речь идет о субстанции, которая очень похожа на настоящую нефть — она такая же черная, маслянистая и мутная. Самое главное, что она оказалась похожа на «черное золото» и в плане химического состава.

Если разогреть эту субстанцию до высоких температур, получается керосин, который по структуре соответствует авиационному топливу стандарта Jet A-1 — его можно использовать в газотурбинных двигателях воздушных судов гражданской авиации. Главным преимуществом реактивного топлива из человеческих фекалий перед топливом из нефти является то, что он оставляет после себя на 90% меньше углеродного следа. По словам Джеймса Хайгейта, фактически им удалось создать альтернативу настоящей нефти, сырье для создания которого неисчерпаемо.

Топливо для самолетов будущего
Но не все так хорошо, как можно сначала подумать. По расчетам создателей нового топлива для самолетов каждый человек ежегодно производит фекалии в количестве, достаточном для производства около 4-5 литров биотоплива для самолетов. Для одного перелета из Лондона в Нью-Йорк будет нужно годовое количество фекалий 10 тысяч человек. Такая же масса человеческих отходов потребуется на обратный полет.

Новым типом керосина точно не получится заменить обычное ископаемое топливо. Представители компании Firefly Green Fuels признают это, но при этом считают, что при массовом применении нового изобретения полеты все же удастся сделать более дешевыми и безопасными для окружающей среды. Известно, что на данный момент компания уже занимается сбором денег на строительство большого завода на территории Великобритании. Если все пойдет по плану, он будет заниматься сбором сырья для изготовления экологически чистого керосина сразу из нескольких городов с большим количеством жителей.
