В предгорье швейцарских Альп археологи обнаружили древнеримские стены возрастом около 2 тысяч лет. Когда-то они окружали римский комплекс зданий. Ученые пока не знают для каких целей предназначался комплекс, однако находка в любом случае является сенсацией. Последний раз древнеримские строения таких масштабов были обнаружены 100 лет назад в Германии. В настоящее время археологические работы на территории комплекса продолжаются, однако уже удалось найти множество интересных артефактов, которые позволят ученым получить больше информации о деятельности римлян на территории Швейцарии.

Древнеримский комплекс у подножия Альп
Древнеримские постройки в Швейцарии были обнаружены случайно, во время раскопок гравийного карьера в штате Цуг, регионе Эбнетвальд (центральной части Швейцарии). Компания Risi AG начала здесь добычу гравия еще в 1990-х годах. При этом в процессе добычи гравия регулярно совершались различные археологические находки и впоследствии проводились раскопки Управлением по сохранению памятников и археологии.
Самая же необычная и масштабная находка была совершена около года назад, и с тех пор на территории древнеримского комплекса ведутся раскопки. Когда он был только обнаружен, археологов поразило то, что кирпичи верхних частей стен все это время возвышались над землей, однако о наличии здесь комплекса до последнего момента было неизвестно.

В настоящий момент археологам удалось раскопать фрагменты оштукатуренной стены, а также найти много древнеримских артефактов, среди которых металлические гвозди, элементы золотых изделий, а также амфоры, различную керамическую и стеклянную посуды, многие другие предметы древнего быта, о чем сообщается в заявлении. Среди артефактов, как было сказано выше, есть фрагменты золотого изделия, которое, скорее всего, служило ювелирным украшением. На удивление, стены и артефакты отлично сохранились.
В настоящее время точная площадь построек неизвестна. Однако комплекс, очевидно, даже более масштабный, чем вилла, на которой виноделием занимались сами римские императоры. Пока неизвестно как римляне использовали комплекс. Это могла быть вилла или, например, здание храма. Большое количество гвоздей на территории комплекса говорит о том, что здесь находились деревянные конструкции. Вполне возможно, что они были установлены на каменные фундаменты.
Но, в любом случае, неудивительно, что римляне выбрали именно это место для постройки комплекса. На возвышенности, где она находится, открывается красивый вид и отличный обзор окружающей территории. В то же время эта территория не испытывала проблем со снабжением водой и продовольствием. Поэтому холм, где сейчас находится гравийный карьер, был заселен людьми еще за несколько тысяч лет до прихода римлян.

Как уже было сказано выше, в результате добычи гравия удалось ряд других ценных находок. В частности здесь были обнаружены следы поселения среднего бронзового века, а также могилы местных жителей позднего бронзового века. Кроме того, среди находок множество монет кельтской эпохи. Поэтому Данная территория не была безлюдной.
На территории комплекса жила древнеримская элита
В процессе раскопок археологи обнаружили доказательства того, что на территории комплекса проживали богатые люди. В частности, об этом говорит дорогая римская посуда, называвшаяся «terra sigillata», что в переводе с латыни означает “запечатанная земля”. Кроме того археологи обнаружили фрагменты качественно выполненных стеклянных сосудов.

Кроме того, в обнаруженных амфорах хранилось вино, оливковое масло и рыбный соус. Также среди находок было несколько медных и бронзовых монет, и даже один серебряный денарий, датированный первым веком до нашей эры. Он был отчеканен при императоре Юлиее Цезаре. На нем изображен слон, который топчет лапой существо, напоминающее змею или дракона. Все это говорит о том, что местные жители вели торговлю с римлянами в Средиземноморье.
