Необычный улов был сделан мальчиком в пруду за домом, где он обычно ловил сомов и окуней. Обнаружив странную рыбу, он очень удивился и сразу позвал свою мать, которая была удивлена в итоге не меньше сына. Однако эксперты сразу узнали в этом существе рыбу паку. Это пресноводная лучеперая рыба, которая относится к семейству пираньевых. Поэтому ее сходство с пиранью, одной из самых опасных рыб на Земле, не удивительно.
Надо сказать, что мальчик поймал достаточно мелкую особь. Эти рыбы могут вырастать в длину до одного метра и весить порядка 20 кг. Единственное, для этого им необходимо иметь достаточно пространства и еды.

Паку обитают в Южной Америке, но что рыба делала в Оклахоме? Ответ достаточно прост и банален — скорее всего она жила у кого-то в аквариуме в качестве домашнего питомцы. Ее прежний владелец, очевидно, в какой-то момент заметил, что размеры рыбы гораздо больше, чем у обычных аквариумных рыбок, и при этом она продолжает расти. Это и заставило его выпустить паку в пруд.
Как поясняют специалисты, подобная ситуация не является редкостью. Иногда рыбакам попадаются 30-килограммовые золотые рыбки в тех местах, где их вообще быть не должно. Все они когда-то были изначально аквариумными рыбками, о чем сообщает издание IFLScience.
Опасна ли рыба паку для человека
Паку, как мы сказали выше, имеет устрашающий вид, особенно, если это крупная особь с большими зубами. Поэтому при встрече с ними люди часто пугаются. Но на самом деле эти рыбы, в отличие от пираний, являются травоядными. При этом зубы помогают им пережевывать семечки и даже орехи.

Однако репутация у этих рыб не очень хорошая. В 2001 году стала распространяться информация о том, что в Папуа-Новой Гвинее эта рыба укусила женщину-пловца за ногу, а мужчине откусила гениталии. В 2013 году, когда одну из разновидностей паку обнаружили в проливе Эресунн (водоем между Данией и Швецией), об опасности этой рыбы для мужчин стали писать во всем мире. Мужчин призывали не купаться голышом в водоемах, где живут эти рыбы.
Однако, как сообщают специалисты, на самом деле не было задокументировано ни одного случая, чтобы паку откусила мужчине гениталии. Позже даже появилась информация о том, что изначально информация была шуточной, основанной на том, что рыбы питаются орехами, но ее тут же подхватили СМИ. В частности, в статье в Википедии говорится о том, что рыба на самом деле не охотится за мужскими яичками.
Поэтому паку явно не самая опасная рыба. Сомы, например, могут представлять для человека гораздо большую опасность. Тем не менее, следует учитывать, что паку имеет очень сильные челюсти, так как способна раздавливать зубами орехи. Поэтому теоретически она действительно способна нанести серьезные травмы.

Но откуда у рыб берутся такие зубы? Они им нужны для тех же целей, что и нам — измельчать пищу. Например, овцеголовые рыбы используют зубы для измельчения раковин моллюсков, ракообразных, а также мелких позвоночных и водорослей. Острыми зубами, как у пираньи например, сделать это было бы невозможно.
