Команда сотрудником Института вычислительной биологии Университета Джорджа Вашингтона исследовала микробиом кожи (микроорганизмы, которые взаимодействуют с клетками эпидермиса по определенной схеме, выработанной в ходе эволюции). Особое внимание они уделили сравнению микробиома на руках, которые регулярно моются, и тех частях тела, которые люди обычно моют не так часто и тщательно.
Идея этого исследования принадлежит профессору биостатистики и биоинформатики, Киту Крэндаллу, который вспомнил, что в детстве ему бабушка всегда говорила тщательно мыть за ушами, между пальцами ног и в пупке. Он предположил, что в этих частях тела могут жить бактерии, отличные от других участков кожи.

От соблюдения правил гигиены зависит микробиом кожи
К исследованию авторы работы привлекли 129 студентов и аспирантов. У Добровольцев взяли образцы микробиома с икр ног, предплечий, участков за ушами, между пальцами ног и в области пупка. Этих же студентов привлекли к работе над исследованием. Как выяснилось, бабушка профессора действительно была права. Части тела, которые мылись более регулярно и тщательно, имели более здоровую и разнообразную микрофлору, чем те, которым не уделялось достаточно внимания во время мытья. Сами исследователи в шутку назвали этот эффект «теорией бабушки», которую удалось подтвердить.
Как поясняют авторы, области сухой, тщательно вымытой кожи, то есть предплечья и икры ног, имели равномерный, богатый микробиом, который различался функционально, в отличие от “сальных” участков за ушами, в пупке и между пальцами ног. Причем между всеми плохо вымытыми участками существенной разницы не было. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Frontiers in Microbiology.
