Но самое интересное, что к таким выводам ученые пришли не на основе изучения сейсмических волн, проходящих сквозь ядро, а в результате исследования астероидов. Давно известно, что ядро состоит в основном из железа, но не чистого. Также в нем содержится большое количество никеля. Определить это удалось благодаря сейсмическим волнам, которые проходят сквозь центр планеты. Напомним, что по тому, как распространяются волны и изменяются их характеристики, ученые могут определять сквозь какой материал они проходят.
Однако кроме железа и никеля в ядре есть и другие примеси. К сожалению, при помощи сейсмических волн все их выявить по отдельности невозможно, так как они содержатся не в таком большом количестве, как никель. Исключением являются лишь радиоактивные элементы, такие как уран и торий, радиоактивность которых приводит к возникновению высоких температур в недрах. К слову, температура ядра Земли гораздо выше, чем температура Солнца.
Ядро Земли состоит из железа, никеля и различных примесей
Количество примесей в ядре долгое время вообще оставалось загадкой. Но в 2006 году ученые придумали как решить задачу. Они предположили, что дать подсказку могут астероиды, которые образовались из той же части протопланетного диска, что и Земля. Проще говоря, они возникли из одних и тех же материалов, поэтому имеют одинаковый состав.
Технология определения состава ядра, которую предложили ученые, довольно простая. Изучив состав углеродистых хондритовых метеоритов, возникших из этих астероидов, можно определить процентное соотношение всех элементов, которые содержатся на нашей планете. Если вычесть известную концентрацию этих веществ в земной коре и мантии, можно узнать сколько веществ содержится в ядре.

На первый взгляд, предложенный способ определения количества примесей в ядре должен быть эффективным. Однако существует ряд нюансов, которые могут сделать расчеты очень неточными. Дело в том, что Земля и более мелкие объекты имеют разную эволюцию. Например, некоторые вещества со временем могли покинуть астероиды, но при этом они сохранились на нашей планете.

Однако ученые из Университета Маккуори создали модель, которая позволяет получить точные данные, несмотря на разную историю объектов. По их словам элементы, которые не растворяются в железном жидком ядре, не входят в его состав. Таких веществ гораздо больше в земной коре, чем должно было быть, если бы планета была однородной. Этим объясняются некоторые аномалии в концентрации элементов в мантии, над которыми ранее ломали голову геологи.
Исследователи проанализировали состав метеоритов и обнаружили, что соотношение элементов в земной коре, которые не могли раствориться в ядре, такое же как в этих объектах. Это подтверждает теорию о том, что астероиды и Земля произошли из одних и тех же материалов.
Однако астероиды содержат гораздо больше элементов, которые растворяются в железе, чем земная кора. Очевидно, это объясняется тем, что эти элементы на Земле вошли в состав ядра, которое образовалось из первичного океана магмы. Основываясь на этих данных, ученые смогли установить сколько железорастворимых элементов находится внутри ядра. Как было сказано выше, почти все золото, то есть примерно 99% содержится в центре планеты. Об этом исследователи сообщают в журнале Nature.

Согласно вышеописанной логике, большое количество золота должно содержаться в астероидах, которые являются ядрами планетезималей. Конечно, добраться до них не так-то просто. Однако гораздо проще, чем пробурить скважину до ядра Земли. К слову, в ближайшие месяцы НАСА собирается запустить зонд к самому тяжелому астероиду данного типа — Психее.
Но имеет ли смысл добывать драгоценные металлы в больших количествах? В настоящее время стоимость астероида Психея оценивается в колоссальную сумму. Но при этом не учитывается тот факт, что драгоценные металлы сразу обесценятся, как только станут более доступными, к примеру, если астероиды будут доставлены на Землю.
