Неандертальцы готовили пищу на костре
В ходе недавнего исследования, команда ученых изучила остатки костров, в пещере Грута-де-Оливейра, обнаруженной в Португалии. Эта пещера считается археологическим памятником палеолита. В период с 1989 по 2012 год здесь было проведено несколько крупных раскопок. Возраст самых старых слоев составляет порядка 120 тысяч лет, а самым молодым слоям — 40 тысяч лет. Считается, что неандертальцы в Европе населяли пещеры в период между 100 и 70 тысяч лет назад.
Остатки костров недвусмысленно говорят о том, что они использовались намеренно. В них содержались обгоревшие кости, поленья и пепел. При этом камень под очагами изменил свой цвет из-за термического воздействия. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что на одном и том же месте регулярно разводился костер.

Какую еду готовили неандертальцы на кострах
Как сообщается в исследовании, опубликованном в журнале PLOS ONE, ученым удалось выяснить какие продукты неандертальцы готовили на костре. В очагах находились останки оленей, лошадей, зубров, коз, носорогов и черепах. То есть неандертальцы жарили мясо самых разных животных. Напомним, что одно из исследований показало также, что неандертальцы охотились даже на слонов.
Ученые пока не могут сказать как именно неандертальцы разжигали костер. Предположительно, они использовали кремниевые камни. При ударе один камень о другой, возникали искры, которые зажигали сухие ветки или траву. Однако доказательств этому пока нет.
