В 2015 году 196 стран подписали Парижское соглашение, и тем самым обязались удерживать средний рост глобальной температуры ниже 2°C доиндустриального уровня. При этом важной целью соглашения является ограничение повышения температуры до 1,5 градуса. Однако в последнее время становится все более очевидным что, что этой цели добиться не удастся. Согласно данным ООН, в 2023 году температура уже была выше доиндустриального периода на 1,4 градуса Цельсия, то есть, фактически, уже достигнут предел, обозначенный Парижскими соглашениями, но при этом нет сомнений в том, что температура будет продолжать повышаться и, скорее всего, достигнет +2 градусов по сравнению с доиндустриальным периодом, а может даже повысится еще больше.

Уже сейчас происходят разрушительные события — засухи, невиданной силы ураганы и т.д. Повышение температуры на 2 градуса станет очень плохим событием, а повышение на 3 градуса может быть концом цивилизации. Об этом он сообщает в своей книге “Наш хрупкий момент”.
На первый взгляд разница в 1,5 и 2 градуса не такая большая. Однако в докладе Межправительственной группы экспертов по изменению климата (МГЭИК) за 2018 год говорится, что повышение температуры на 2 градуса может привести к разрушительным последствиям.
