Астероид 2024 PT5 превратится во второго спутника Земли, приблизившись к нам 29 сентября 2024 года. По расчетам ученых, он будет притянут гравитационными силами Земли. 2024 PT5 был обнаружен относительно недавно, 7 августа, с помощью системы Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS). Эта система ежедневно следит за возможными столкновениями астероидов с Землей. Ученые уже убедились, что это именно астероид, а не просто фрагмент космического мусора, которых возле Земли действительно очень много. Астероид 2024 PT5 имеет диаметр всего около 10 метров и будет вращаться вокруг нашей планеты на протяжении целых 57 дней. Потом он снова вернется на свою орбиту вокруг Солнца.
Исследователи предполагают, что 2024 PT5 относится к группе астероидов Арджуна — небольших космических тел, чьи орбиты схожи с земной. Эти объекты редко встречаются на пути нашей планеты, что делает это явление поистине уникальным. Интересно, что астероид может вернуться на орбиту Земли уже в январе 2025 года, а потом мы снова заговорим о его возвращении в 2055 году.

Как увидеть второй спутник Земли
Для тех, кто надеялся увидеть новый спутник Земли рядом с Луной на ночном небе, есть неприятная новость. Как и говорилось выше, диаметр астероида 2024 PT5 составляет всего лишь около 10 метров, так что он будет слишком мал для того, чтобы наблюдать за ним невооруженным глазом. Скорее всего, его будет невозможно увидеть даже при помощи любительских телескопов, потому что он слишком тусклый.

Астероид 2024 PT5 — не первый и не последний объект, который Земля временно удерживает на своей орбите. Такое уже случалось ранее — например, в 1981 и 2022 годах, когда космический объект 2022 NX1 на короткое время превратился в нашу «мини-Луну», прежде чем вновь покинуть окрестности нашей планеты.
Ученые отмечают, что такие мини-спутники, как 2022 NX1 и 2024 PT5, — это астероиды, движущиеся по траекториям, напоминающим орбиты Земли, что позволяет им на некоторое время становиться нашими космическими «соседями».
